White Glove Moving is flat out lying! Scam! Hidden costs! Jersey City New Jersey
I wish I had discovered this site before I attempted to use White Glove Moving for our move last year. We had been scammed in the past by a moving company, and so I personally handled all the details with this company to prevent it from happening again. They were the only company we could get to move us on the particular day we needed, at short notice. I got a phone estimate which was rightin line with other quotes we had recieved, and we even had an okay review from someone who had used them before.
I don't typically get taken in by scams - I am a pretty careful consumer. After recieving an estimate of $650, (and an oral guarantee that it would not exceed that by more than $100), I asked for a detailed description of any charges not included in that quote. I was told the only addtional charges would be for packing materials. I told them that I had packed everything myself with my own materials, so that would mean there should be no additional charges, and I was told that was correct.
When the movers showed up, they verified the phone quote, and again said the only thing extra would be for packing materials. Having moved twice before, I know that it's much cheaper to use your own materials, and so I had done so.
The movers then start taking out boxes and packaging to wrap our mattresses, and each individual piece of furniture (which would not even fit in a box). I asked them why they were doing this, no other mover would put mattresses and dressers in boxes. They told me that was there policy. Starting to get suspicious, I asked if there were extra charges for these boxes, and they admitted there were, but they wouldn't be too much, and they just wanted to get started moving the stuff, as we were wasting time.
I refused to let them touch another item, until I walked through our aparment with them and had them point out all the things that had to be wrapped and how much it would cost. They finally admitted that the packaging would add an additional $850 to the bill. I tried calling their manager, but no one was available to speak to me on the phone. Furious, I kicked them out of our house.
I ended up going over on our lease because we couldn't move that day, and that cost me several hundred dollars, but I refused to be cheated by these crooks. I hope no one else has to be subjected to their sleazy way of doing business. I apologize for the lengthy rant, but his occured almost a year ago, and my blood still boils every time I think about it.
