You wouldn't think this kind of mistreatment of our military would still be occurring in 2011. Yet it does.

I would like to let others know how Winco Foods in Eagle, ID treats their military employees.  The management suspended his employment for missing the day he was enlisting in the United States Military.
Even though he let Winco know 2 days ahead that he needed the day off to be at the MEPS (military enlistment processing station) all day. He was having physical, mental and back ground checks done that took all day. He also took the oath and swore in to the United States Marine Corps that day.

He called his supervisor Tony that day from the MEPS and was told his shift was covered.  The next week the main store manager, Linda Chandler suspended him, in writing, for missing the day he enlisted in the military.

Prior to this, Tony had cut his hours by 75% once he told Tony he was intending on joining the military after high school graduation.  He repeatedly wrote notes asking the main manager Linda Chandler to contact him concerning his hours being cut.  Ms Chandler said it is not her job to contact employees.  Imagine being treated like that?  After being mistreated and bullied by these two employees he felt forced to quit.

These two managers are nothing more than adult bullies.  We have sent a formal complaint to Winco Corporate and nothing has been done so far.  Winco Corporate will not return letters, email, and our phone calls concerning this matter. The Marines have also repeatedly called Winco Corporate office and they do not get called back either.

Who would want to work at a place that is basically trying to force you out anyway?  Who would want to shop at this store when they don't support our military?

I feel that people should be aware of how this store management treats employees, especially one that is going on to support and defend our country!

Shame on you Winco of Eagle Idaho and especially managers Linda Chandler and Tony!!!!

I will never shop in that store again until or if these two employees are fired!  Many of our friends and family are doing the same.

1) Winco Corporation VP has not responded to the formal complaint as you claim.

2) The facts remain that Winco of Eagle Idaho did in fact suspend this employee for missing work the day he enlisted in the United States Military, even though he gave proper notice.  This shows the non-support of military persons

3) The only time a shift of work was missed unexpectedly was due to a valid medical reason. The employee turned in a doctor's note to Linda Chandler.  One time he was in the ER passing a kidney stone for 3 hours.  A second time, he was involved in a wreck, was at the ER and had broken bones and was given morphine and had his arm in a sling.  He couldn't work that evening.  Both times after turning in a medical note, Linda Chandler still wrote him up.  He never missed work for a frivolous personal reason ever!  Ironically, this employee was suspended on the day when he got called in to cover a shift of work for someone that called off.

4) Witnesses to this suspension did not agree and refused to be part of what Linda was doing!  That witness got up and excused himself from the room after stating he didn't want to be any part of what she was doing.  A visiting manager to the store that day didn't agree either.  He was the only reason the employee wasn't sent home that evening.  Why didn't he inform HR of the treatment Linda Chandler was doing to this employee? He witnessed all of it and heard her rude comments about military first hand.

WinCo Foods is honored to support members of our Armed Forces

AUTHOR: WinCo Foods - (United States of America)

While WinCo Foods does not discuss employee matters in a public forum, we would like to share that a suspension due to missing work does not occur after one instance, but after several violations of the attendance policy that every staff member is aware of.  If a staff member does not agree with a disciplinary decision, they are encouraged to take advantage of the appeal process using their store's grievance committee or contacting Human Resources.  The employee must initiate this, it cannot be initiated by a parent, friend or relative.

WinCo Foods received an email regarding this matter on Feb. 7th with a formal complaint against store management, then a reply was sent on Feb. 8th stating that their complaint had been forwarded to the store's division Vice President for review.  This matter was acknowledged and a reply sent, contrary to the report that states no reply was given. WinCo Foods proudly supports the Men and Women of our Armed Services, as evidenced by the fact that many honor WinCo Foods by calling it home.
