9 months ago, I received a phone call from WordSmart regarding their product. They asked for my parents and so, I handed the phone over to my dad. They chatted through speakerphone, so I heard everything they spoke of. Eric, the name of the WordSmart representative, stated that the original price was about $300 and that if we take the offer he was about to present, he would sell us the product for the price of about $160 (plus shipping and tax totals to $184). So my dad took the offer. The payment was paid and no payment plans was arranged.

About 9 months later, my dad received a mail fromt he collection agency in Indianapolis stating that he owed WordSmart a total of $493. My dad has yet to solve this problem, since it arrived just yesterday. Hopefully, they will retract the debt.

Also, the product received was for SAT/ACT test prep and was for those scoring below 300 on the exam. I score over 600 and asked to see whether or not I could exchange the product for my level. They refused and demanded a payment of $49.99 for the product. This company was a rip-off and this ghost charge sent to the collection agency is unauthorized. Luckily right after my dad paid for WordSmart product, he got a new card with a new number so they couldn't charge his credit card $439.

Your dad paid with a bad credit card?

AUTHOR: Vinco - (Canada)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 26, 2010

So your dad paid with a credit card that expired before it could be billed? You said that you received what you asked for from them. How is that not "fraud" on your dad's part? You said you score over 600, so you must understand the meaning of the word? $300 and 9 months of credit card interest and default could easily be $439. I'm guessing that you 600 score includes a zero in math.
