I ordered an engine on March 19, 2007. First, the engine block and head we ordered was to be out of a 1997 Geo Prism with 12,000 miles. The engine block and head we received was from a 1995 vehicle, but the mileage is unknown. WAP sent us a Carfax report, supposedly to show us the "pedigree" of the (incorrect) engine they shipped. However, the engine they sent had a different VIN than the Carfax report. In other words, what they delivered was not what we ordered, nor did it have the "pedigree" WAP subsequently assured us it had.

Second, when WAP attempted to pass off the older and more used engine, it agreed to credit us $300 and offered a one-year warranty if we would keep the engine. We agreed at that point, but the $300 credit was never processed, and the one-year warranty was never put in writing.

Third, we discovered when attempting to install the engine WAP sent that it was damaged well before it was shipped. This was obvious due to the amount of corrosion in the area of the block where the break occurred. The missing portion of the engine had both a pin to guide it into the transmission and a bolt hole to attach it to the transmission. Without this bolt, the engine would have been secured to the transmission with only three of its four bolts, something unacceptable to reputable automotive technicians. I even sent WAP pictures that showed how the plate which is between the engine and transmission was bent around the broken part of the engine so that we could not see the broken section when we received it.

Fourth, WAP agreed to retrieve the engine and give us a full refund when it learned of the damage we had discovered.

I have learned from this experience that World Auto Parts is synonymous with Scam Artist.
