I cancelled my gym contract with World Gym in Biloxi, MS because they lied to me. I had requested a one month extension in payment as I would be out of the country. They agreed that I could skip a one month payment and had me sign a document which they refused to give me a copy of. When I returned from my trip, I found they had taken the payment out of me checking account anyway. When I called the manager, he was rude and told me I had to pay. I explained what had happened and he said that I was wrong. I told him to cancel my contract then. He agreed.

I mailed them a letter and my membership card of this cancellation and got my bank to reverse out the debit. That was about 4 months ago. Now I have Vision Financial, a collection agency in NY calling my cell phone daily. They claim I owe over $300.

After explaining myself, they offered to settle for 50% but would not send me anything in writing. I told them to sue me and would take my chance with the judge in court. I no longer answer their phone calls, which are daily now for over a week. My advice to anyone using World Gym is to NOT believe anything they tell you and to get anything in writing to your satisfaction.

In the first ripoff report charles stated that our staff told him that the time would be added to the end of his membership agreement. As long as his membership is current and the term of his membership completed he will not lose the membership time he was out of the country. He gets the time back at the end of the term of his membership agreement. This is not a hidden policy. Many of our members freeze their accounts every month. Our company freeze policy is quite simple. If you are within the term of your membership agreement (meaning you signed up for 12 months and are currently in your 6th month of membership) you can request to freeze your account for several different situations including temporary relocation (min of 30 days). The freeze will be Time Only and all payments within the term of the membership will be paid regularly and the Time Frozen is added to the end of the term of the membership or in the scenerio above the 13th month will be at no charge. If you have completed the term of your membership and are month to month with a open ended membership then the freeze is implemented immediately without any payments for a minumum of 30 days. This is a very simple and fair way to allow members to freeze their memberships.
