I was planning to buy an airline ticket for myself to go to Lebanon and I decided to use the internet since all other travel agents told me tickets are non-refundable but changeable anyways. So, I bought one ticket throught that airfare.com after carefully reading all the main rules and regulations on May 11th, 2007. I then went to visit my sister in Iowa who finally decided on May 12th that she can get another ticket for herself to accompany me. So, I used my credit card to buy her ticket since she did not have enough money in her account to do so. This website (airfare.com) had a glitch in the system. I inputted all her information, but once I clicked on a checkmark that automatically transfers my credit card information into that new purchase, all her information was lost. I didn't realize it until I had already purchased another ticket under my own name!! At first, I thought that was a mistake that can be repaired, which is what one of the agents we called told us at the time. He said we should simply fax them the change form and ask to change the time. As soon as I came back from Iowa to Baltimore, on Tuesday, I faxed that form and called the agents. Instead, one of the agents (Mr. Rex) was very rude and told me I had made a very big mistake and that I might not be able to change the name or get refunded for that matter. It is worth noting that both tickets (the one I got recently by mail and the other one that I am disputing) have flights going from BWI, to JFK or Newark, then Rome, then Beirut on flights going exactly on the same dates at very similar times. The way back is also on the same dates to the same end destination. So, if that second ticket is not refunded, there is no way I can use it for the future since the company is not even willing to give me credit with the airlines. They have been very rude and made me wait for half an hour on the phone each time I called with no clear response except that I needed to wait for an agent to call me and tell me about the status of my refund which is not a complete certainty or even close to that since for them, those tickets are not refundable. Each ticket cost me $1400 and the average cost for a two-way ticket to Lebanon is about 1600. So, instead of saving, I ended paying almost double the average. To any sane person, all this is totally unfair and illegal, except for that company which has their strict rules and regulations written in very fine prints so that consumers don't see them right away. I read many complaints about them after I made the purchase. Even though they are a legitimate business, they already ripped off dozens of people, I would think. I am willing to go to court of this case, though I am hoping the visa card can settle this with them after they investigate. I already contacted the better business bureau, but that did not change things much. The status now is that I need to wait another 3-6 weeks to hear about any type of refund. I believe they tell this to people so that they don't contact the visa card and by then, it would be too late to make any claims. I contacted the visa on May 17th and they told me today that they might be able to get a refund by September 14th. However, I would much rather resolve this issue earlier. Please let me know if there is something you can do for me. Thank you!
