I signed on for a 14 day *free* trial. I sent an e-mail on the 14th day and no response. Approx. 6 days later, I noticed a charge on my account for $189.95 on April 19th!! they have changed their price, check out, and terms of service recently to address the problem which was that they did not tell you you would be billed for the annual service and you could not select a monthly payment option. I called on the 7th day after I received no reply and was told it was too late, nothing could be done and I would basically have to "eat it" and he would cancel my account access immediately, but not refund my money!

I was very frustrated as I am on SSDI and have a limited income and I was not able to pay my mortgage payment for May! The next day I called my bank and asked to do a charge back, which they sent me the paperwork. I read the Terms for Ancestory.com the next day (April 27th) and it said if you had a monthly account (which was not an option, mind you) then you had 7 days AFTER billing to cancel your account. I called and spoke to Garett and he assured me I would get a refund, gave me a confirmation #C9132811 and said my refund could take up to 30 days but never really took that long....... I had called my bank (Amsouth) after speaking to them the 1st time( On April 26th). I received the paperwork to do the charge back from my bank a few days later and didn't read all of it, because I was giving Garret the benefit of the doubt and had a confirmation # after all.

Approximately 24 days later I still had no sign of the refund. I found the letter from my bank and took it to the local branch. they said I had not responded within 10 days of receipt so couldn't process the chargeback (it was less than 30 days??!!) but they called Ancestory.com on my behalf and asked what was the hold up. I spoke with Lillian at Amsouth and she talked to Samuel Dugan at Ancestory.com and asked why I had not been refunded and he did not know....said he cancelled out the previous confirmation # and issued a new one on May 21, 2004 at 3:45 pm EST!! The NEW confirmation # is C9132813...... Today is June 7th, 2004 and I have no sign of a refund!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!
