I am a 79 yr. old great-grandmother who has owned and used time shares for over 25 years.  I have 2 wks in Mazatlan and 1 wk. in Cancun at prime resorts that I am no longer able to use.  My husband passed away this past year and I am physically handicapped as well as visually impaired.

I came to the Wyndham Grand Desert Resort in Las Vegas with 3 friends who are also widows. While I was there I wanted to see if there was a chance that Wyndham would take these timeshares...

I wasn't asking for any money just to get out from under the maintenance fees.  I was referred to a young man who advised me to just stop making the payments.  I knew this did not make any sense and a young woman asked me if she could help so I told her, that because of my situation I was no longer able to use any of these time shares.  She was very sympathetic and assured me Wyndham would be very interested and had customers who were eager to buy these properties.  To make a long story short..... they would exchange these 3 wks. for points  that I could use for restaurant coupons, I could use or give as gifts. They'd have me sign this contract and when deeds were transferred I'd have points that I could use.  There would  be a charge on my credit card of something less than $50.00, but only until the titles were transferred on the Mx property. "If you were my grandmother this is exactly what I would do for her." Yah, right!

She was in a big hurry for me to get back to enjoying my vacation.  Another agent came in with a contract and she told him she'd gone over everything with me and just to have me sign the sheets that need a signature and put my initials on a lot of other  paragraphs, which she said she'd explained to me so he didn't need to go over anything.  Well, I signed where I was told and wasn't able to read any of it because I would have needed my big magnifying glass to do so and I didn't have it with me.  (Yes, how stupid/trusting can you get?...) She came in again during this process and told him to "just give her the sheets that need a signature because we need her to get back to her room".  Then they handed me a big backback full of material that I could hardly lift --with the contract buried someone among all these books, advertisements, brochures, etc. and send me on my way.

I returned home 3 days later thinking that I had traded in my 3 wks of timeshares for points I could use at a whole list of restaurants and other great offers.  When I unpacked and found that contract I could see there was no mention of my weeks in Mexico, but one of the pages that didn't require a signature from me, said I owed them $20,000 plus $1,179. which was on my Visa card.   I immediately called and confronted her and sent an e-mail with notice of my cancellation of the contract.  This was sent in the afternoon of the 5th day.  The contract said I may cancel , by written notice,  until midnight on the 5th day.  Now they are contesting the cancellation because apparently sending an e-mail is not construed as written notice.   Time Share sales people will go to any lengths to deceive you!!
