For the past few years my 80 year old widower father has been taking supposedly "free" trips with Wyndham resorts to Branson, MO, Las Vegas, Orlando, etc. Every time before he goes we tell him not to buy anything and he always tells us that he won't but when he comes back he is very evasive. Upon returning from his last trip to Branson, MO he finally fessed up that he had just purchased Double Platinum status in Wyndham's program that's 2 Million points per year and that they had set up a trust for my sister and I to inherit this "asset" upon his passing. I asked my dad to show me the paperwork and I almost threw up when I discussed he had spend $276,000 (that's not a typo) 276K. And furthermore, he is on the hook for an additional $900 per month maintenance fee. While we appreciate all he has done for us, it is very disturbing that they find lonely old folks and offer them trips, dinners, shows and then put them in a high pressure sales pitch until they buy. Fortunately, my dad can absorb this hit to his savings but I would not put it past these people to bankrupt someone. If your elderly parents are taking "free" trips with Wyndham, WATCH OUT. Don't beat around the bush, ask them very directly what they have purchased and break the contract before the 5 day waiting period expires.

Read the paperwork!!!  The free trip if for attending a timeshare presentation.  If he has that much money, why is he going on free trips that are gifts for attending a presentation???  If someone chooses to buy something, how is it taking advantage of?  If he is that elderly and lonely, why didn't you go with him on vacation?
