WyoTech Laramie is a Dead Dog, DO NOT work for this company, especially this campus. Since Corinthian Colleges (CCI) took over this school they have managed to run it straight into the ground and now they are starting to dig. CCI bought the trade name, WyoTech, and has slapped it onto every type of trade school they could find, as if the name is a magic talisman that will create wealth anywhere.

The truth is this; they only care about keeping the warm bodies in desks for revenue. If in fact a student does not belong there (dangerous behavior, no drive or inadequate intellect), for whatever reason, is irrelevant to the CCI management. Instructors will be held responsible for student attrition, even if the reason is outside the instructor's control (i.e. the student changed their mind, Mom is gravely ill, or girlfriends pregnant). These black marks will show up on your annual review. Any problems with student retention is seen by CCI as the instructors' fault not the fault of ill-advised CCI policies.

Issues with that have not been solved, that will cause student retention issues: 1) Student housing- picture a crack house run the Nazis-the arbitrary room searches; 2) Financial Aid Department-Good people that are overworked, under trained, and underpaid; 3) The School Recruiters-they stretch the truth to fill desks and you will be expected to do damage control everyday; 4) Tuition Cost-CCI asks too much for what they are delivering-the credit crunch will make this worse; 5) Poor Morale of Staff-poor treatment of staff affects enthusiasm, which effects inaction with students, which affects students desire to stay; 6) The word is getting out to prospective students and employers-they no longer trust the WyoTech name; and 7) Large class sizes-this will hurt your ability to teach and manage the students. The students will bring these issues up during lecture and it causes a lot of problems. Anyway if they treat their external customers this way, then you can correctly assume that Management and HR will 'sell you down the river at the drop of a hat'.

With the exception of the Diesel program, the curriculum needs major help. Do not expect resources to be dedicated to solving this problem, expect more work for already overworked staff. CCI has a 'spit and a promise' mentality when it comes to fixing things.

Another example of keeping up appearances without actually doing anything, is CCI's Big Five Program. The symbol is a hand up in the air like a High Five, it is more like a Pimp Slap across the face of faculty, staff, and students. It is pure window dressing.

Also, Unconfirmed RUMOR states that this campus will be closing in the next 2-3 years. This may not be true; however an examination of the local market will convince most reasonable people not to move there. All of CCI's buildings are leased; theses contracts can be simply allowed to expire. They have other Auto/Diesel campuses, so shutting down this geographic back water would not hurt the corporate office. Their equipment is either leased or long since paid for, so it could be returned to the owner or sold for scrap.

Alternate, desirable employment is difficult to find in the area, you would have few options if this operations folds. Wyotech and the University of Wyoming are the two largest employers in the county, if you are new to the area, you do not want to compete for what jobs might left with better connected people.

Housing is very expensive in the town. Small, run down houses are still very costly ($125,000+ for 1200 SQ Ft). This may not sound expensive compared to other markets however, the local housing market is starting to decline and has yet to reach bottom. So any purchase that you make will be from someone trying to 'pawn off' their house on you and eave the area before housing prices really crater. Besides the pay is not good for the cost of living, you will to be able to buy much.

In short working for CCI/Wyotech Laramie, WY is like holding a Klan rally in South Central Los Angeles, regardless of how promising it looks at first; it will end badly, even though you don't know how or when.

Thinking of working for them, run away fast the other direction. If you already work for these clowns, get out fast!!!
