I have recently taken over management in my restaurant, and I have been completely redesigning it. Renovations, new team culture, atmosphere, cleanliness... A complete new standard. And it's working!

Everyday, customers, employees, and even random people on the street have stopped me to tell me how incredible the restaurant improvements are. That being said, due to previous management, we have some sour reviews online. These are on multiple sites, but Yelp is my main concern. I investigated. I read all the reviews, replying to the recent and most relevant ones, learning every inch of room that I have for improvement.

Then I noticed a light grey-fonted banner at the bottom reading "8 other reviews that are not currently recommended".

I clicked on these, and there they were --- GREAT reviews, silenced and hidden! Two were 3 star reviews. Very average. 3 were 4 star reviews, and 3 were 5 star reviews! These ratings would improve my overall rating tremendously. Especially because the most recent {hidden} reviews are the most stellar. They are genuine, satisfied, organice reviews. I contacted Yelp. This is what they told me:

The reviews are hidden because they are not proven to be real, human reviews. They could have been planted by myself, by competitors, or they could be bots. There's no way for the logarithm to tell a difference.

Understandable. I asked that they examine each review personally, which would make it obvious that these are users who "ate here today!", and add them to the site. They said they have no permission to make human interjection.

So here I am, with 8 decent--awesome reviews that are hidden in Yelp-pergatory. These date back to 2008, so my restaurant has been devalued on the most popular review site for well over 8 years. They do not allow for human interference when their logarithm miscalculates. And their support team is overall embarrassing, rude, and unlearned. The only answers I received were "watch the video" that I've already seen.

Sending in my complaint was incredibly difficult to do. And the reply email was clearly a pre-designed template. Yelp is not exposing the full consumer view. YELP is designing a false reputation FOR my business. It is releasing some information while hiding the other, which is a definition of LYING. It is fraud. And most importantly, it is wrong.

YELP review site is not worth a dime- Money buys your review

AUTHOR: janet - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, March 20, 2017

Yelp after being legally sued by many entities, still is driving in the same road where money buys removal of bad reviews and advertisemetn and money paid to them buys you "good reviews' to be subsituted for bads- very unreliable site and untrusted.
