Over the past 2- years, I have used York Photo Labs for most of my film developing, as they used to be prompt and reliable. Normally I would receive my pictures within 7-9 calendar days from the day I mailed the order. However, at this point, it appears that York Photo has lost me as a customer.

York Photo has failed to return a processed photo order from a roll of (APS) film which I had sent to them on 9/24/04. The check which I had enclosed to them of $9.25 cleared my bank account on 10/01/04. York Photo also failed to return my film.

After 2 weeks, I became concerned, and began to write to them. On or about 10/18/04, I filled out, and sent them, a Tracer Form which I happened to have. I made copies of the form, and have written to them several times. To date, I've only heard from them twice 2 letters in which they apologized and asked me to fill out a tracer form. The second request came after I had already sent them at least 2 copies of the form!!! At this point, I now realize that they probably lost my film, and perhaps their requests are merely stall tactics, and that they are doing nothing to resolve this matter.

On or about 11/20/04, I sent York Photo a final notice, in which I demanded immediate shipment of my photos and film, or if (as I suspect) they lost my film, that they send me a refund plus compensation for the cost of my roll of film. I also advised them that if they failed to respond to my notice, I would begin to take other legal steps in about 2 weeks (i.e., filing complaints with appropriate consumer agencies).

Needless to say, York Photo has not responded to my final notice. It's obvious that I am extremely annoyed with York's handling of this matter. Therefore, I am now making my complaint known.

Don't let York Photo's apologies or generousity lure you back as a customer.

It has been about 1 years since York Photo Labs lost my film for the first time. After that time, I began to take my film to other retailers for processing. Meanwhile, York Photo had sent me a refund, a voucher for a free order, and a few rolls of film along with a few apology notes. So I sent them a roll of film the day after Easter, and guess what? It appears that they lost my film again!! Some 4 weeks later, it appears my Easter photos are gone. And as usual, they try to blame it on the US Postal Service. Now I can only nag them for a refund, which they said they sent me last week.

Although it was nice of them to send me more than just a refund and one roll of replacement film last year, it's not much when you consider the priceless value of the memories lost by York's carelessness. I certainly will never again give York Photo another chance, given that this was only my second order since they lost my film in 2004.

Photo memories are priceless, whether it's a holiday, wedding, graduation, baptism, bar mitzvah, or whatever. Therefore, DO NOT be fooled by York Photo when they try to lure you back with free film, etc. DO NOT trust your memories to an unreliable, irresponsible outfit like York Photo Labs!!
