I have seen others write on this issue and now find my self with the similar issue although they changed their tactics up the end results is still the same.

Back in december (right around christmas) I received a phone call from a publication company saying that I have won a $1000 shopping spree from "Select Your Gifts", we talked, the guy seemed really nice and we talked, figured out the details and now I wasn't in the best of health at the moment so I was rather out of it at the time and so thinking it was legit I accepted it and being as it was a publication thing I had to take a magazine package with the shopping spree. Now, I should have just hung up the phone when I heard you had to PAY for security shipping of my code, luckily in my sicken stupor I gave them a pre-paid card number. So I picked a package that sounded interested to me and then I took the numbers in which was my confirmation and then my number to call to cancel my subscription.

So, I hung up with the people after they took my info which most of it they already had somehow. Guy on the phone said that it would take like 2-3 days for the letter to arrive and they told me to call and cancel my stuff if I didn't want it after the letter arrived (well technically after my first magz arrived but good thing I didn't wait that long) took 3 weeks until that letter arrived, opened it up, got my info, called up the place right then and there. So, called them up, I told them my name, they asked for my address, found me that way, didn't need the confirmation number they gave me earlier. During this phone call the woman on the phone never really said anything except what the script tells them to say like hi my name is so and so and I work for this company customer service how can I help you? Actually I didn't even get that, I got a hi, this is customer service for your mag source how can I help you and it was in the most unfriendly tone I have heard for a customer service person. Not like a total b***h but just like, totally disinterested in my or my business. So anyways, the call lasted 2 minutes, she punched in my info (I think she did, I heard a keyboard clacking in the background but that doesn't mean anything) she made sure I wanted to cancel, I said yes, she said it was done and as she asked me if there was anything else she could do I was about to ask for like a confirmation number or something and before I could finish my sentence I heard a click and when I checked the call timer on my phone it said call ended. Not being satisfied with that I called back, no response what so ever. So I said screw it, they can try to get money from that card all they want, I don't keep much on it at a time, that and it is a pre-paid so it don't get filled to I fill it so they can sit there and try to charge it till the cows come home since I'm not paying for stuff that I told them I didn't want. (oh yeah, forgot to mention this in the main body but that shopping spree was a scam as well, there was only like 8 items on the whole entire site out of the thousands of items promised and it cost $5.95 per item for shipping. Not group of items, PER ITEM, being singular)

So a few months go by, it is now February and I get a call from them but this time they are introducing them selves as "American Readers Choice" and say that they are the place that my magazines are coming from and that there was a discrepancy with my order as some of the magazines were no longer available and that they wanted me to pick new ones. So I did and we chit chatted for awhile being as their computers were slow at the moment supposedly, the guy seemed nice, so after I picked my new stuff the guy said to hang on a sec while I was being transfered and before I could figure out what was going on, bam, I was transfered to this woman who said she was his supervisor and asked me how the other guys service was, bunch of standard questions, then after that she went right into her speil about how I had a payment due and how she could cut my payment down by $10 bucks and also just for being one of their gold members or some crap like that I was getting a $200 gift card that could be used at certain places and that junk. So I talk to this chick, tell her that I canceled my account, she keeps telling me there is no notice and then turning the conversation she transfers me her supervisor. This guy comes on, does the same thing the woman before does, asks me how that chicks performance was blah blah blah. So after that he goes into his speil and I cut him off saying that I canceled my stuff and he keeps telling me that there is no note or mention and I told him what I wrote earlier, that the earlier broad on the phone who never gave me her name, just like swept me under the rug. He did the whole apology just to shut me up bit and then went into his speil again and I cut him off again saying that I don't want their stuff, just to cancel my account or what ever and he pretty much tells me that they can't do that their as that isn't their division and that I would need to call their support line and he said that what they could do was get my payment squared away for the reduced price, then, being as I am all paid up and that and with my $200 gift card on the way that after I listen to a little recording that is part of their ending procedures
(ending call procedures I guess) and told me that at the end of the recording there would be a number for their support center and they would get me taken care of. I listen to this recording and right at the end where it is about to give me the number for their support services that I can call between 8:30AM and 5PM I hear a click, look at the call timer, says call ended AGAIN!

So now, skip forward to today pretty much (april 3rd 2011) and I get a phone call, sure enough it is them again, calling about how why the payment didn't go through and at this point, I am totally disinterested and I am not really giving this guy any attention as I was busy with other stuff at the time of the call. Now during this I told him that I tried to call and cancel and had canceled my account one already and he tells me the same s**t, no notes or nothing on the account stating it was closed and so I told him that I wasn't paying anymore since I closed my account long ago, and that they screwed me over and that they aren't getting another dime so to just take me out of the system. Now at this point he tells me something that could make the pope cuss up a storm. He said that they could offer me a cancel settlement for 30% of the pre-paid account and that I could still get my magazines for the remainder of the time or whatever. Now at this point, these guys are sending me just any magazine they can find, like send this and this, also, some of these are coming in beat to s**t, like I know my mail carrier and they aren't careless, so I know it's not them who are damaging them. So yeah, I am getting magazines I shouldn't be getting, and damages goods. But anyways, back to the settlement, so he says he can offer me a settlement for 30% and when I asked how much that 30% is in terms of USD and he said it would be $300 and some dollars, I pretty much told him that I canceled my account, that they need to find who ever I talked to as she didn't give a name and get her to tell you where she stuck the post-it note that said I was canceled for I wasn't given them anymore money and I hung up and now they are harassing me with phone calls, calling me several times a day, during very bad times of day so yeah, not to the point of changing my number just yet but if they keep harassing me I will be either considering that or legal action. I mean I made the mistake of giving these rip off artists twice, not paying them $300 bucks.

So yeah, warning to all, if you get a call from "Your Mag Source" or "American Reader's Choice" saying that you have won something, just hang up the phone and don't pay them a second thought for they will try to take advantage of you.

Demand of Payment Letter Sent

AUTHOR: NathanR - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, April 21, 2011

Today (April 21st 2011) I got a letter in the mail from "American Readers Choice Inc" stating that I had "broken" my payment agreement and that I am being billed the full amount of $1,245.10. Now I never made an agreement with "American Readers Choice Inc", I made the original "agreement" with "Your Magazine Source" for that shopping spree (which was a scam as well) and I canceled that ages ago so what this probably means is that these charlatans pawned me off onto american readers choice or something because they are talking about amounts of money and account types that were never mentioned. I have already filed a report with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) and told them my story and what has been happening and I think I will have to send another report and maybe a lawyer if these charlatans want try to pursue it any further.
