i dont have a horror story like the ones i have read online - but i do feel that they misrepresent themselves i was told by sam that i could get it refinanced for a lower price (i can not find anyone who will refinance a timeshare) and i could post it on their website for rent.

But when i emailed to ask how i could post it i was told they didnt have a website but i could post it myself.

I am now trying to get rid of the property due to my financial situation changing. they may keep all the money i have paid so far - i am not looking for a refund - i just dont want the property to go into default i have worked hard to improve mine credit and do not want this on my credit report. if any has any suggestions please let me know.if a westgate employee rebuts mine story please try to offer some suggestions and not just crititzem.

Unfortunately you signed a "mortgage" contract.

AUTHOR: Nikki - Coconut Creek (U.S.A.)

Consider timeshare at Westgate like a mortgage. It is deeded property. You signed the contract and cannot just give it back to them unless they agree to take it back in lieu of foreclosure. Probably the only way to get out of the mess is to sell it (which isn't exactly easy these days).

As for refinancing, you can refinance it, but you have to qualify for a personal loan. It's kind of weird because even though it is considered real estate, you cannot get a conventional mortgage.

Here is something you may not know. I believe you can deduct the interest and taxes you pay on your Westgate timeshare as you would a 2nd home, as an itemized deduction, because it is deeded property (as long as you don't own a 2nd home that you already deduct). You need to ask an accountant. I have been told that, but I'm not exactly sure.

Had the same situation I can help!

AUTHOR: Dwaine - San Ramon (U.S.A.)

We also used to own a Westgate Timeshare in sunny Florida. We used it every other year but was not happy with it, so we wanted to get rid of it.

We tried selling it, renting it on our years and trying to give it back. Nothing worked at first until one day we called Westgate Headquarters and said we wanted to give back our time share with no strings attached.

They faxed over a document that put the property back in their name and we signed it. They made out because they were able to keep our money and resale the unit. We also made out a bit because it did not affect our credit.

So, I would say call Westgate Headquarters and let them know you want to give it back to them and they will be glad to take it back. I don't believe they will pay you for it but you can try.

I don't have the info anymore because it was years ago when we gave it back.

Hope this helps
