I feel like it is my duty as an employee of Texas RV Center, Inc. to respond to the things that this customer has said. We rarely get complaints about our service OR our inventory, so this really caught us off guard. We do the best we can to offer our customers a nice, clean, well taken care of RV and the service to match it. First I would like to explain how we operate and then I would like to address the specifics of this complaint.
Every RV that we buy (with the exception of a trade-in from time to time) I purchase myself from various bank repo auctions. We are not given any information about the owners, where the RV has been, or what repairs (if any) have been done to the units because the various privacy laws that are set in place from state to state prohibit the information from being disclosed. The only thing we get is the title which lets us know what state it mainly resided in.
After the RV is purchased at auction, and it arrives on our lot, we have someone go through and access the RVs condition, usually me, and from there decide if the carpet needs replacing, what furniture it needs (if any), what equipment is missing (if any) and so on…
From there, we steam clean/hand clean the carpets in all of the RV’s where the carpet is not replaced and then put plastic on the floors to preserve the cleanliness of the carpet.
We then send an RV technician in to check all of the RV’s systems. All water valves, lines, holding tanks, and all plumbing lines are checked for leaks. We do a complete gas check including all appliances that run on gas like the refrigerator, stove, water heater, furnace, etc… We also do a complete electrical check on 110 and 220 of the same above mentioned appliances as well as all lighting, slide-outs, and sound/entertainment systems. We check the A/C to make sure that it is running also by cycling it off and on several times. We also check the brakes and all running lights and gear. We pull the awning out and make sure that the canvas is free of tears, cracks, and pin holes as well as to make sure that the awning arms are operating properly and that it can open and close with ease. The tires are checked for leaks, the sidewalls are checked for any rot, and the tread depth is checked to ensure that the RV passes its safety inspection when the time comes.
After the tech is finished, we send a cleaning lady into the RV and she washes all the walls, all the furniture, breaks down all removable component parts such as air vent grills, stove top parts, refrigerator parts, microwave parts, ceiling fans, vent/exhaust fans, and most cabinet hardware and drawers to have them cleaned. We remove virtually anything that can be, within reason. Our ladies spend an average of about 3-5 days on each RV no matter how clean it was to begin with!!
We also have an exterior detail crew that removes all silicone from the RV and replaces it. This makes the RV look really finished but ultimately prevents leaks from occurring. We also re-seal the roof seams as well as all roof openings such as vent fans, A/C boxes, roof antennas, and much more.
Then it goes on the lot for sale….
Once it is sold, we send a second RV technician in to do another check of all of the same systems that were checked previously… This second check ensure us that everything that could have been done to make this RV in tip top shape, has been done. Also, at this point, the RV is safety inspected by a state agent too. Before the customer even brings his/her truck back to hook on or before any paperwork is signed, we send the customer to examine the unit. We have all systems running and do a complete walk-thru of each and every RV that leaves our lot. They see their RV and everything in it working before they leave, and the customer is shown HOW TO work all appliances/systems on both gas as well as electric. We spend as much or as little time as we need to make sure that our customers are comfortable and feel confident about their purchase.
We also offer our customers a FREE warranty of two weeks and ask that the RV is taken out and used to make sure that all is in working order and that they are in fact happy with their purchase. If, by chance, that something does go wrong within the two weeks, we ask that the RV is brought back to us (within a reasonable amount of time) and we have no problem fixing/replacing anything that is necessary. We also sell extended warranties that cover virtually everything but the frame if our FREE warranty does not suffice. I do believe that we are the only RV dealership around that offers any type of warranty for FREE.
Now, to respond to Bobbie’s complaints…
I feel like much of this could have been avoided if she would have taken the RV out and checked it herself like we ask all of our customers to do. We did in fact show her all of these things working and she did in fact sign a customer demo sheet that we require everyone to sign once they see their RV in working order that specifically says that all components of the RV were shown to them. These components included the A/C that she said was not working as well as the awning that she said had holes in it. We certainly understand that sometimes things just happen, and when they do, we are there to repair and fix whatever is needed… within our FREE warranty time period.
As far as a spare tire is concerned, when our units arrive here, if the spare is there (and in good condition), we leave it and if it’s not, we do not add one. We do have good used tires and wheels for sale for $125 and occasionally throw one in the sale to close the deal… The spares we have have all been tested for their tread depth and the sidewalls inspected for any dry rot. I can’t believe that we would just throw anything in her underbelly without checking it to make sure that it is “road worthy.” Also, in reference to her claim that the four tires on the RV were dry rotted, I am not certain of the accuracy of that statement either. We are mandated by the state of Texas to do a highway safety inspection on each and every RV that is sold on our lot and that will travel the Texas highways, and tires are a critical part of that inspection process. Dry rot and tread depth are checked and properly gauged in every inspection. BUT, tires are also specifically stated in our warranty policy as a non-covered item.
There were no “lies and cover-ups,” and no promises that were not kept. We did exactly what we said we were going to do for her and when she left, and for several months after that, were under the impression that she was satisfied and that all was well with her RV. We gave a FREE warranty for two weeks and within that time frame never heard a thing from Bobbie. I feel like getting a phone call four months after a sale for warranty repairs (on a two week guarantee) was just too big of a stretch for us.
