As a natural skeptic of door-to-door salesmen, I saw the rip off coming a mile away (as they claimed their signs would do). Not only was their product completely inappropriate for both the size and location of our business, but the salesman insisted that he show his cheap looking demo (LED lights available in clown colors only) to both my partner and I after I made it clear that I was not interested.
Nonetheless, I told him that he could show us his presentation the following day when both my partner and I would be present because he promised it would only take 20 minutes. When he arrived 1/2 hour late, I made it clear that he would have to complete the presentation before my next appointment. Salesman #1 brought with him Salesman #2, who was clearly a prior used car salesman trying to impress me with cheap tricks like complimenting my shoes.
During the 1-1/2 hour presentation, I repeatedly asked them to "wrap it up" to no avail. When my next appointment came in, they were still there and still wouldn't talk about price. A customer came in and as I was dealing with her, Used Car Salesman (#2) was harassing my next appointment - which was a catering opportunity for us - trying to find out if he was a salesman and what he was selling, etc.
I finally told #1 & #2 that they needed to give me numbers or leave. #2 said, ok $7500 for a 40" sign. Here's the special part: he then wrote "yes / no / maybe" on his sales quote and then crossed out the maybe in front of me and told me that the offer expired as soon as he left. I DON'T DO ULTIMATUMS!! And neither should you. Do what I did and show them the door.
