I am another college student who got ripped off by this no good, scamming, heartless company and its lying little desciples at my door. I have the same story everyone else does, but mine takes place in an apartment complex instead of the dorms although it is still illegal for solicitors to come knocking on our doors here as well. I was in the middle of playing video games on my only day off from work and school that week and there was a knock at my door. The girl explained she was selling magazine subscriptions and asked if she could come in and just walked inside. She then explained all about their trip to Cancun and asked what magazines I liked. I said I wasn't interested in getting any subsriptions because they are always hard to cancel and she told me all I had to do was call this phone number to cancel at any time.

So she kept me talking and I told her what magazines I wanted from the list she had and she wrote them down on what looked like an order form instead of explaining it to me like she said she would. She then asked me to sign the box on the order form and I did. She then asked for a check for the money for a two year subscription. Not even thinking I brought out my checkbook, but then I had to answer my phone. When I got off the phone she had written the check out just with no signature. It was my and my fiancee's checkbook! I told her to leave and I got a sob-story about how she loses points if she has to destroy the receipt without proof of talking to someone so she explained to me that she would take the check for proof of talking with somone(she then ripped it out) and without a signature they would mail it back and cancel the order. My fiancee put a stop payment on the check as soon as she got home. We also called the number on the receipt she left behind and all we got was an answering machine that said it was too full to hold any more calls. Nobody ever picked up within the next 3 days so we couldn't even cancel the order within that time frame anyway.

Here it is 6 months later and we got a debt collection company telling us we owe them $98 for the subscription and the returned check fee (check game solutions, inc, P.O. Box 2108 Vero Beach, FL 32961).

Plain and simple, I was lied to and she stole my check. i never received any magazines so i still do not feel that they have lived up to their end of the bargain. Since I have not received a service from them, I owe them nothing. And as for this returned check fee, it should never have been processed without a signature anyway which i believe makes this company and the debt collection company liable for fraud.
