    Corporate Advocacy Program
On 9/11/2009 I contacted Directv to possibly become a new customer. Multiple Directv representatives repeatedly promised that I would receive 130+ HD channels if I signed up @ $49.99/mo. for the first 12 months and $75.99/mo. after that. I was also required to sign a new 2 year agreement with them. My cable plan only offered 90 channels and was over $90/month so I made the switch. One thing Directv required was a ONE TIME approval of $25 via a credit card to cover the "potential" shipping costs of the equipment. They said this would be released by my financial institution in 10 days.

On 9/13/09 my equipment was installed & service activated at 6:00 p.m. that Sunday night. I started going through the HD choices and didn't feel like I had that many, so I actually counted the HD channels & found only 52.

On 9/14/2009 I called customer. service. Multiple reps assured me I should be receiving at least 100 HD channels. Finally a rep confirmed that I would be only getting 52 HD channels. It was at that point that I became nervous and asked them to deliver what I was promised. There was no reason for me to switch if I was going to get less channels I said. The rep then offered me a $50 credit for my trouble, which I refused. Then I was offered a $75 credit by yet another rep which I also refused. I explained the only thing I wanted was what they promised to me. The rep explained that they could offer me the package I was promised but ONLY at the higher rate of $109.99/mo. and there was nothing they could do further. I IMMEDIATELY cancelled my service as to not do business with a company that engages in BAIT & SWITCH & since I was within the 24 hour window, I would avoid the early termination fee (ETF). I was adamant that I could not afford the ETF and they guaranteed me that I would not be charged the ETF since I cancelled before 24 hours was up.

Then on 9/21/2009 Directv placed a hold of $460 on my checking account for the ETF. They did this by using the credit card number I gave them to cover "potential" shipping costs when signing up.

On 9/21/09 my bank assessed $29 fee for overdraft.

On 9/22/09 I became aware of the fee and the hold. I immediately phoned Directv. The first rep said I would be charged the ETF because I cancelled on the 9/14/2009, but the cancellation did not take effect until 9/15/09. I immediately demanded that the rep escalate the complaint to a supervisor. The Directv supervisor admitted that the hold was not valid & should have never occurred. But, in order for my bank to release the hold from my checking account, I had to have a Directv rep confirm that the hold was not valid. I made a conference call with my bank & Directv so they could verify the mistake & release the hold of the funds.

On 9/23/2009 I discovered that instead of reversing the approval, Directv processed the debit to my account of $460. I immediately called Directv and was told there was nothing I could do and that they submitted the request that a credit be issued to me through their "finance dept." and the credit could take up to 6 - 8 weeks to process.

On 9/23/09 My bank charged me for 3 more overdrafts @ $29 each. My bank is aware of the problem and has reversed the fees up to this point, but I am struggling now as a result of this mess and can't pay for food or gas for the week. I have spent over 10 hours of my life on the phone with them and they are beating me down. I truly believe this company's practices need fully investigated.

This is how DirecTV Rolls

AUTHOR: Gharris - Chardon (U.S.A.)

Directv can suck it! They messed up my order with in 1 day of placing it! When the installers were out, the two of them and myself spent the better part of an hour and half on the phone with DirecTv and their UN-educated customer service representatives who know nothing about the services or the policies of DIRECTV.
I Ordered on Thursday Sept. 17th 2009 and that Saturday was going to have an installer here. AS i said we spent the better part of the install (which never happened) on the phone. There was a problem with the line of sight on the HD channels and i would have to remove a tree(??). I called them and tried to cancel the HD programming but keep the standard programming. When the installers talked to the customer service rep., she informed them and myself that she canceled the whole thing. In order to get it again, i'd have to resubmit my credit information and checking account information. Appalling since i didn 't cancel the account. So, here's my morale of Directv, they can screw up your bills, your order and some installations but it's never their fault! They in the Office of the PResident have no pull over mess ups like this and they are as useless as a legless man in a tug of war contest. The whole office of the President is useless. make dumb rules that it's the installers job to modify a work order. Shall i call the installer when i want my channel line up changed too? That's what we pay these morons for. But what do we get for our money, a CEO that's overpaid and a company that lies to us. They take our hard earned money and throw it to Calcutta for Barely-speaking-English technicians. Anything to save a buck and hurt the American worker that made this a #1 at one time. They could easily find out why this happened, instead it's they did nothing wrong... well, DishNetwork now has my 100.00 a month bill and Directv can... suck it!

Until the AMERICAN Corporation can stop behaving like Nazi's and realize the world is not as cut-throat as WALL STREET allows, the American workers will suffer the defeats of the American companies who slave the masses!

DirecdTV anmd the Bs HD

AUTHOR: Elize Von Stratton - Missoula (USA)

This has been a on going issue with DirecTV. Thye keep up with the Promise of  more HD than anyone.

The HD  is  embedded with several packages but to get the full use of the HD services one has to have the premiere programming package  which  give one a few HD ( (as if a few HD Movie channels that play those wonderful fits from the 70's and 80's makes the channels worth it) Oh and lets not forget  to pump up the amount of HD  Channels one HAS to subscribe to all of the Sports Programmking like NFL Sunday Ticket HD stuff and HD  PPV  counts in their eyes as HD Channels. It comes down to this at the beginning of investigation of your  entertainment service before signing the dotted line. Send me all information about your HD services  and send me a copy of your ON Direct ( Directv's Monthly TV Guide)

Its not so much of a bait and switch as it is the fact that I can open a cable service and  state  i offer 200 HD channels and as long as i have packages that all total those HD Channels i am not lying now does that mean i have to make sure each package has 200 channels of HD programming? hell no and my reasoning is this  if i have a lower package that offers all HD  only  and ya get movie channels as well as PPV  and sports programming in HD.  then why should i create packages to sell  i might as well say   unless ya  able to afford  250 dollars a month for services you cant have my services.

What thye average consumer doesnt know is that DirecTV has to buy bundles of  programming. Showtime is like a programming package  that we get tons of  we cant give away  enough of that so we offer that as free for 6 months  it cost us nothing but other things do .

Lets says Lifetime says hey we have our programming in HD now and what we want is 1 mill for 250,000 blocks of programming. we know our customers are big on HD stuff  so we go and  do a tally  and figure how many HD subscribers  we have and shell out the bucks  to buy  x amount of blocks  . so now we as a company have to recover the funds we spend on getting ya  that lifetime channel in HD weather oir not ya view it or not. bear in mind what ya don't care about someone else does.

Sadly we dont have the capablities of creating a la carte services where ya pick all your programming for ya tv and chardge ya  for your stations that you view nor will that ever happen as what you would find is that you might actually have a even higher bill than you expected cause then instead of selling blocks of 200,000 units at a low rate  charging higher rates for individual units.  Think of how wal-mart can sell items at a lower cost . they buy  huge shipments and in bulk at lower rates and passes the savings to you by a slight jack in prices and cause hell they will make  thier money back even  as a clearance.

the whole process is complex  but it really comes down to the fact  DirecTV creates packages  for everyone   so  someone who can only afford  40 dollars a month can have services  as well as the elilte who have it all  can as well. ya spend more ya get more  ya spend less ya get less.

if you ran a business whould ya  make sure everyone gets high quality services  as super low rates. if your time money and everything  cost you 500 dollars  per unit  would you sell your whole thing ( whatever it is )  for 100 dollars  . I think we know the answer is no. cause  you have to make  the education  you paid thru the nose worth it.

while it may not make sense to you in the simplest terms would you go to school and pay 100,000 dollars   for your education   graduate with honors to end up working at a McD's job where  you never once see your education paying itself off.

DirecTV makes it programming available to just about anyone as long as they have good credit and can afford it.  I am appalled that someone would say our CSR's are uneducated cause thats is not so.

A CSR  has to be in a class for 3 weeks and they cant  show up even a minute late on the spot  the door is closed if a CSR  in training is late  its  over they have to wait for the next set of classes . YOU CANT MISS one day of training EVER. Our CSR's go thru a hell of alot of abuse. how would you enjoy every day hearing the F-Bomb dropped on you  at least  20 time being called a liar etc. its not nice at all

I seriously doubt ya would watch all that HD Programming   every day . you would have to be some sort of welfare recipiant  to have that much free time to be  needing  to have such a pressing need  to have 150 channels of HD

be an adult check the programming p[ackages and look for the one that offers your channels you desire and be happy with it. noone twisted your arm to get with Directv and  if ya  at the beginning stage of picking a tv  service provider  use the net   and learn whats out there first. i can go to directv.com and explore  that website to know  what  HD is available to me and what package   i need to get  to get the stuff i want . end of story. Don't blame uneducated choices on CSR's and feeling misled. you are an adult and clearly have the bet  so  take a few hours and read before shelling out ya cash on the desired bling
