I started service with DirecTV in Jan of 2008. I was told then that I would have to place a "Security Deposit" of $300.00 for the equipment and would have a 12 month contract.  I did this and maintained service until Aug of 2009. I opted to get cable service as soon it was avalibe in my area. I called at the begining of Aug of 2009 and talked to a CSR who tried intently to have me keep the service. After saying NO literly to over 10 different offers he got the point that I no longer wanted the service and that he would send out a recovery kit for my digital boxes and DVR.  I was told 7 -10 days for these to arrive.  Over 3 weeks latter, Instead of the recovery kit arriving I was fortunate enough to receive a bill for directv service for the month of Aug. This was nuts I was irate. I called DirecTV and talked to another CSR explained to her my situation and she was more than willing to look into it.  She told me she saw where I had called at the begining of the month to cancel but she said I opted to take advantage of one of the offers that the person I had talked to eariler made for me. That is why I received a bill and my service was still active.  I told her I did not want the service then and I still do not want it now, infact my boxes have been sitting beside my front door for a month now waiting for the recovery kit to send them  back while I have been enjoying cable.  She looked at my account sasw I had no activity on it since the day of the first call and told me she would fix the bill and send out the recovery kit. I told her that she has been very helpful but call me a skeptic I want you to do it now with me on the phone and give me a total due for last month of service. She did that then I asked her when I should expect to receive my deposit back for my equipment. She told me in about 6 weeks. Now it is Nov thought it is time for a call to DirecTV to see where my money is. WELL!! come to find out they are now saying that the security deposit yes they still refer to it as a deposit is a nonrefundable fee and that it was being returned to me at a rate of $5.00/mo on my bill.  I disputed that the $5.00/mo was a credit I had due to the package I had ordered with the movie bundle and dvr ect I receive the $5.00 credit but lets assume that is true I have been a customer for 20 months do the math thats only $100 where is the rest of my money? I was told that it was forfited because I no longer have their service and it was non refundable to begin with.  I stated that if it is non refundable why are you refunding it to me at $5.00/mo and also it was told to me when service started it was a security deposit not a fee it was for the equipment you have your equipment back I want my money, they told me I could fill out a dispute form and mail it to their dispute department I find this crazy!!! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH DIRECTV THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If any one else is having this problem please respond to this post in the rebutal I will seek out attorney's for possible class action
