DIRECT TV Recovery Kits and Cancellation Scam Independence, Kentucky

Direct TV is for sure an unethical company with unethical practices, which is suprising for a company of thier size. Here are some examples of thier practices just from my own experience as a former customer:

- They charge hidden fees. Your monthly bills are always much larger than Direct TV says they will be when you sign up.

- They will direct withdrawl from your account without authorization, particularly upon cancellation of service.

- Anytime I have called Customer Service they are very unprofessional and it sounds like there is an office party in the background. It is very hard to believe that anyone in Customer Service is actually concerned with your concerns.

- The worst of all in my mind is the "recovery kit" scam where they tell you upon canceling your service that a "box" is on the way to your home and that you have only a few short weeks to put your recievers and remotes back in the box, and get it back to them quickly to avoid the "equipment charges". I called three times to get a "box" from them and it never came. If you ask me, they don't even send the boxes at all, or they dileberately delay sending them so that you end up paying the charges no matter what.

DO NOT SIGN ON WITH DIRECT TV, YOU WILL GET RIPPED OFF! IF YOU ALREADY HAVE SIGNED UP WITH THEM, THEN CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT OR CANCEL YOUR CARD BEFORE YOU CANCEL WITH DIRECT TV. THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION. IF YOU ARE TOLD THAT A "RECOVERY BOX" IS ON THE WAY, DO NOT WAIT FOR THEM TO SEND IT, CALL THEM EVERY DAY UNTIL IT SHOWS UP! DOCUMENT YOUR CONVERSATIONS AND DO NOT LET THEM OFF WITHOUT ANSWERS.
