I signed up with Direct TV in May of 2009. When I signed up I remember I didn't want to sign a contract because my living arrangement was uncertain and I didn't know how long I'd be living where I was. Low and behold, when I called the company to cancel my services because I was moving, I was told I had signed a 24 month contract. To get out of my contract would cost me $400. I really don't remember signing a contract! Now that I'm stuck with the service for another 20 months, I wanted to add 2 more receivers. Guess what.....they want to charge me $69 per receiver + $19.99 per shipping + $5 per month per receiver to lease it back from them. So I pay $89 per receiver and I don't even own the freaking thing! I have to send it back when I'm done with their service. I was told I could go to Best Buy to purchase a receiver and save myself the $19.99. But guess what.. You still don't own the freaking receiver.
If I could get out of doing business with this company today I would. I seriously considered just paying the $400 to be rid of them. I intend to tell all my friends and whoever else will listen, to stay the heck away from Direct TV.
They suck you in with a lower price, rebates, and whatever else they can do to make it appealing, and once they have you they stick it to you good.
If you're considering Direct TV, don't even go there. Look at your local cable service. I wish I'd done that but now I'm stuck with this piece of crap company.
