I signed up for Dish Network in February of 2008. I was a Directv customer and left them to go to Dish Network, as I thought I would save money and had a lot of problems with Directv.

When I signed up, I was told the package I ordered was $32.99 a month. There would be a flat fee of $5.00 per month for all 4 receivers (not $5.00 each). I also asked him about phone lines, and he told me that i didn't need a phone line for each receiver...

Fast forward 2 months....to my new bill. The first bill I received a credit like they told me. My new bill showed my package price as 39.99 a month, $5.00 Additional Receiver fee and two $5.00 Programming Access Fees.

After calling Dish Network and dealing with a pretty nasty woman, she forwarded me to a new guy in a different department that helped me. BUT, he explained that the 32.99 a month is the package price, but they throw other "fees" in there. He also told me that the $5.00 programming access fees were because I didn't have phone lines hooked up to my receivers. WHAT?!?!?! He was going to credit me for the next 10 months, but I STILL have to go out and buy wireless jacks.

He (and the first nasty woman I talked to) said that the guy didn't lie to me when I signed up. I don't NEED the phone lines, but they're nice to have to avoid the monthly programming access fees.

Unbelievable. So, now I am stuck in a 2 year contract with them...and in the process have to go spend more money on the wireless phone jacks.

Dear Ma'am,

first let me appologize for the rude behavior from the lady you spoke with. unfortunately they exist in every business, but they usually don't last long with dish. same with installers. they don't tolerate it. i worked there for 2 years before leaving due to outside issues 6 months ago.

now, when you signed up did you sign up with what is called a sales partner (another company representing dish) or dish network directly when you set up your account? sales partners are notorious for not telling fees up front. dish has always delt with those companies harshly, some even loosing thier contracts. if it was a sales partner then you need to file a complaint with dish and let them know who it was, thier phone #, address, whatever you can get ahold of to help them find out who the company is. where i live there was a company called linkus who did that and really bad installs....... they're no longer with dish. haven't been for a long time. wheather it was a bad dish employee or a sales partner, either way i do apologize.

before signing the paperwork make sure to read everything. no matter what company. and before signing up with someone check out thier website. www.dishnetwork.com allows you to build a mock system and check out the prices and the breakdowns of the charges. nothing hidden. also if there are any further concerns please go to http://dishnetwork.com/content/about_us/residential_customer_agreement/index.shtml. it spells out everything from top to bottom. i can explain the access fee if the rep didn't when you spoke with him. before the duel tuner recievers (2 tv boxes) you had to have a reciever for each room costing you $5 for every one after the first. now they don't charge that as long as they can "ping" the reciever once a month. when they ping it they are only verifying that it is in the home where it is contracted to be (not taken to a vacation home, a boat (yes, i had gotten some of those calls), to someone elses home, etc). the fee is in place to encourage you to connect the phone line so they can verify its location. that's it. its a very expensive reciever (basic ones costing 199.00, dvr's were if i remember correctly 349.00...might have been more). if something happens to the reciver no one wants to pay for the replacement b/c they are so expensive. that's why they ping them. if you take it away from the home and it gets broken, refuse to pay for it, then what? not fair to the company and a big bummer for the customer.

i really do hope things are righted for you and wish you all the best.
