We purchased in May 2008, and at the time a door to door solicitor came to our home and spoke to my husband. After a lengthy conversation, I was asked to join them (I had been upstairs in another part of the house). I was given a ‘highlevel overview' of the system info and told we were “pre-approved” because they were running a special in the area, trying to get new customers, and all we had to agree to do was advertise the APX system in our front yard (which is coming down TODAY) . At that time, I said I wasn't interested in signing anything, because I am WAY leary of door-to-door salespeople. In fact, it was my husband, who signed up for the alarm. The representative assured me, that I only had to sign because I was the debt cardholder for which the account would be debited. Now it appears this account is in my name? How in the world did that happen? I have yet to see my husband's name appear on any literature. Not only that, but now, 15 months later, I wish to cancel and I find out A) there is a 60 month period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would NEVER agree to this, and in fact recall the salesperson saying we can cancel at any time. I'm sure some people do, but NOT ME. I would NEVER agree to a 5 year contract on a car, let alone a stupid alarm system in a county in which I can leave my door unlocked and frequently do. THERE IS NO NEED! Plain and simple, I would not have signed this knowingly. It may have been on the contract, but was NEVER verbally discussed and/or pointed out to me. As I stated, I WAS NOT IN THE ROOM during the spiel, but the account was set up in my name!! B) I have been informed I cannot cancel or will have to pay a huge sum, of which I believe we were bamboozled into accepting the entire thing.
The door-to-door reps need to be above board, and honest, not cut corners and leave out KEY information in order to secure a sale. Thanks to APX Alarm, we will NEVER EVER listen to another door-to-door solicitation. I have also filed a complaint with BBB and intend to file with the Texas Attorney General as well as the Texas Insurance Board, as I have recently found that APX was not even licensed in the state of TX at the time.
To top it off, when I went looking for the paper contract, I found that the Apex Alarm rep left a previous customer's information at my home, including their Social Security number, and address. I believe that violates some type of privacy law as well. I believe I will contact that customer as well, who's personally identifiable information was left at my home and perhaps they would like to file a complaint too!
This company is a rip-off. There are 1571 BBB complaints filed against this company, several government actions, and recently, they have been having their license to sell revoked in certain places!
The equipment works great, but I have no need for it, and after paying for 15 months, I was utterly SHOCKED to find out I have 45 more months to pay. Needless to say, I stopped the bank draft as well. I would love to see a class action lawsuit against this company for their deceptive practices. If anyone is moving in that direction, please let me know! Looks like they are ripping people off all over the US!
