Verizon Comm. Sent my DSL package VIA UPS to my apartment building. Unfortunately, they don't have my appartment number for some reason, however, they refuse to leave a delivery notification. It's not a large apartment building, in fact there are only two units, and the apartment building looks like a row house. So why wouldn't they atleast leave a sticker for me?

I called and the woman I spoke to must have worked for the DC Government because when I repeated what she said--and I told her I was trying to understand her statement--and she began to get an attitude with me, and repeated what she just told me with stress on her voice.

UPS is too unreliable, too slow, and not specific enough in their tracking system, not to mention entirely inconvenient. I think from this point forward, I will refuse to do business with ANYONE who ships UPS. They will have to use another carrier. I suggest that you do the same.

???

AUTHOR: Peter - Pony (U.S.A.)

I don't understand .... If your apartment number was not listed on the package, how in the world is UPS supposed to know which door in your "row house" to leave the notification on??

Stephan, a few points to consider.

AUTHOR: Steve - Bradenton (U.S.A.)

Stephan,

Please keep in mind that the UPS is not a government agency, so I doubt the lady you spoke with was anything other than a UPS employee.

UPS does not leave notices of delivery attempt. They will simply come back on sveral consecutive days until they deem the pakage undeliverable and send it back.

I suggest that the problem is with the shipper who obviously left off your unit#.

I think you should take it up with the shipper, and not UPS. Is UPS responsible because there is nobody at your residence when they attempt to deliver?

If that is the case, you should use the $15/mo solution I use. It is called a private mailbox. They sign for and accept all of my packages. I pick them up when it is good for me.

Experience with UPS

AUTHOR: Aafes - Viernheim (U.S.A.)

The OP was lucky. In two different experiences with UPS I have come home to find high value items simply left, in open sight on my front step. One was a computer bundle I ordered with the name of the computer maker and a large graphic picture of the computer on the box.

When I called UPS about this practice I was told I had signed for the package. I have had similar experiences with Fedex and others. Often their drivers will simply sign the signature pad themselves to avoid a return trip.

I found it funny that I was able to sign for a package on a day that I was at work for 12 hours, 65 miles away.

I have, however, had UPS leave attempted delivery notices many times on a preprinted form with the phone number and address of the delivery facility so I could either pick up the package or inquire on it.

A slight correction

AUTHOR: James - Woodbridge (U.S.A.)

Steve in FLA, UPS does leave notice of attempt to deliver. I missed a pick-up three times once (never could get home in time to catch the driver) and they left a re-deliver sticker each time. After the thrid time the sticker indicated I had to go to the local distribution center to get my package.

I've had similar experiences

AUTHOR: Peter - Pony (U.S.A.)

I've had similar experiences with UPS. Once, they did leave a package unattended on my front step. After that incident, when I am expecting a package I simply leave a note on the front door that states "UPS - please do not leave packages unattended on front step."

I've also had them leave delivery notices when they attempted to deliver when I was not at home. On the notice, you have the option to select whether you want them to redeliver and leave the package at your door, leave it with a neighbor, or pick it up yourself at their distribution center.

I've never had any problem whatsoever. But then again I always make sure they have my correct address so that they know where to deliver the package to.

Try this, Stephan

AUTHOR: Robert - Jacksonville (U.S.A.)

Have your packages delivered to your place of employment. I have always done this, with no problems...even when I was a Marine.

UPS Delivery Attempts FAQ

AUTHOR: Alma - Menlo Park (U.S.A.)

You can find it here:
Or, if the editor delete this link, do an online search for: UPS+delivery+attempt

The driver SHOULD leave that yellow note, but very often does not do it. Either comes back, or leaves the package at the door.

IF there is NO apt#, or the address ndoes not exist, the driver takes it back, and contact the sender. (IF the sender left a phone #)

To prevent this kind of problems, the best way is asking for tracking # from the SENDER. Then you can track on-line. (Many businesses send out shipping info automatically.)When your package arrive to your UPS center, you can pick it up.

We have constant problems with one driver, not delivering, not leaving notes. Based on tracking info we can find and pick up the package at our area UPS center.

The worst: UPS has only ONE phone number, to call. You can not contact directly to your area UPS center. This way you can complain as much as you want, nothing happening.

I've never gotten a notice from UPS..

AUTHOR: Steve - Bradenton (U.S.A.)

Thats why I got the private mailbox.

I get many UPS packages. Never 1 notice.

Although I also had a $2600 laptop computer leaned up against my front door in clear view of the street. I was an OTR trucker. It sat there like 10 days I found out after calling and screaming at them.

The shipper was part of the problem too. I specified for them to send it insured and signature verification. They did neither. Amother example of stupid and lazy taking over.

The UPS rep told me I signed for it. I said, "really"? I then picked up my log books from my truck and drove down to the UPS terminal in OKC,OK and once again let the stupidvisor tell me that i signed for it. Then I pulled out my log books and showed him that I was in MAINE on the day of the delivery.

Then I asked him to provide me a copy of my signature. He then told me he was having computer problems.

These UPS people are lazy and stupid. They get paid a good union wage. Why should they care if they have to come back?

Thanx you problem sollved

AUTHOR: Stephan - washington (USA)

With hindsight being 20/20 I've noticed some key elements were left out.

1. My apartment building has a locked security door on the front of the building with a mail slot. The delivery man could've used the adhesive to attach to the front door (as they do now) or he could've slipped the delivery notification through the mail slot.

2. From my recollection I didn't have a tracking number until I called verizon and they told me a delivery attempt was made. Then I received the tracking number.

3. I mentioned the DC Government to describe the attitude of the UPS customer service personnel. Her disposition was as if to convey they were well within their right to not leave me a notice of delivery attempt.

I'm not sure if it was this post or many like it that fixed the problem but now at least I receive delivery attempt notices.

Now my the problem with them is:

1. They've consistently delayed my last two deliveries and
2. They have an internal policy, if you do not call to say you're going to pickup your package they won't deliver it to you even when you show up to the depot to pick up your package and your package has been taken back to the depot.

I'm undecided about filing a ripoff report and at this point I choose to avoid doing business with anyone who ships UPS. I prefer USPS and FED-EX over UPS. Besides it is very difficult for me to go to the UPS depot to pickup packages after a missed delivery attempt.
