Enhanced Voice Mail Inc Allowed a 13 yo to authorize charges. Tarpon Springs Florida

When we opened our phone bill today, we discovered a $15 charge. When my husband called the phone company, they quickly removed the charge and then gave him the phone number listed.

He called them and was told that our daughter was the one that had "supposedly" authorized the charge. Their excuse was that she "electronically" signed the request and that according to their records, she was 18. She is 13.

I have not had a chance to look too deeply into the situation, as it was after business hours when I learned about it, but I plan to first, call our phone company and demand that they stop doing business with this and similar companies. If I am not satisfied with their response, I will probably contact a consumer advocate and pursue that avenue.

I will also check the internet logs to find out exactly what my daughter entered (she insists that she always uses her correct birthday) and what kind of disclaimer (if any) they provided for her.

I am livid that our phone company would not only allow a 13 year old to authorize charges, but that they would allow someone who is not on the bill to authorize charges.
