Markata, Double Eagle D, et cetera have been flooding arizona with bullshit surveys to get information for their mothercompany Marathon Communications. I found this out by doing a reverse lookup online for the phone number 214-446-1900. I called them three times before they even admitted to having any association with the company Markata. Apparently they have the hardware that makes auto-calls to people for their survey in house at their Bothell, WA location:

Marathon Communications
22722 29th Drv SE Suite 120
Bothell, Wa 98021

So if you want to take a more direct approach to being removed from their machines, go there. Otherwise call the phone number 1-800-919-1000. If you call, it may take a few attempts - I personally had to resort to colorful explitives to convey my point which is why I suggest going to the source.

I hate them. So if you get a wild hair up your ass and want to bomb/fly an airplane into/shoot bullets at/piss on/eat or otherwise disrupt their flow of income, I would not be offended and would actually look forward to seeing their smoldering remains on the news.

I have been fighting telemarketers for over 8 months now. My main problem came from telemarketers using a 206 area code. A Seattle phone company, Marathon Communications (800 919 1000), provides phone numbers and acts as a buffer for the telemarketers. They use a fake name on caller ID (TMC,card services,Sat.inc etc) and a fake number you can't call back (206 415 8940,206 415 8880, 206 415 8547 etc). When you call Marathon they won't give you the identity of the business that called you unless you subpoena them, which is what my Attorney General did. One company was Guardian Communications (309 277 1222) 3322 38th.ave Moline IL.61265. They called people on the DNC list, used illegal recorded messages, and called cell phones. They sold the numbers they got to DirecTV and Dish Network. North Carolina sued them for this a few months ago. Calls from illegal telemarketers are a huge problem 206 278 8691 and 206 278 8803 are just two of the dozens I have collected. Marathon also provides numbers to telemarketers such as, Evergreen telemarketers,Telemarketing Concepts, Global Contact Services,Bank of America Insurance and many others.

Does anybody know the purpose of these surveys? Do they ask for personal infomation that could be used by companies that provide phone numbers for a fee? Like Intelius (877 974 1500), located in Bellevue WA.(near Bothell) They are a online referance service specializing in locating individuals. They also provide telemarketing lists. Could there be a connection?

Marathon didn't use telemarketers

AUTHOR: Wrlsmik - Sequim (U.S.A.)

I was the Senior Network Engineer for Marathon and worked for the company for almost 15 years. Marathon was not at fault nor the cause for the issue that caused so much frustration for recipients of the harassing calls. I took several of the complaint calls myself and tried to explain, in detail what was happening. If those call centers failed to comply with do-not-call lists or failed to provide correct call-back numbers, that is their own doing.

Marathon, a licensed Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC), was issued blocks of phone numbers to issue to customers. One type of customer were 'call centers' or "telemarketing houses". In order for the call centers to comply with FCC rules, they were mandated to provide a 'real' phone number for Caller ID; a number that if called back, would be answered or had Voice mail.

The phone numbers would be tied to a name in the national database that would also appear on Caller ID. Any time a phone number is sent to a Caller ID device, if the called party subscribes to Name & Number CID, their local phone company queries the database to tie the name to the call.

The call centers would input, into their system, different phone numbers based on which campaign they were calling for... i.e. 2064151xx1 - presidential election; 2064151xx2 - firefighters fundraiser; etc. This way, the called party would see the name of which campaign was calling on their Caller ID display.

Marathon's role was providing the numbers to the customers and populating the national database with the name of the campaign, according to the customers' specifications. When anyone called those numbers back, the calls would come through Marathon's network, and subsequently route the call to the appropriate agency or company... again, according to the customers' specifications.

If a neighbor was spraying your car with a hose, would you complain to the water utility? ...no. That's essentially what was happening here. Except in this case the water would continue to flow if Marathon ceased providing the numbers to those call centers.

The important thing is this... The outgoing calls, from the call center to [you], did not originate, nor traverse through any part of Marathon's network. The calls were originated from anywhere in the country, from any telephone company and there was nothing Marathon could do to stop or control them. Those call centers could send no Caller ID and still create just as much frustration and Marathon would have just as much control of it... none.
