In October of 2001 I was in Las Vegas for 5 days. During this time I used the phone to call home. No where in the room or on the phone does the company state the rates. When I was checking out I was suprised that I got socked with a $350. plus phone bill. The clerk says this happens all the time and that another customer was suprised when his bill was in the thousands of dollars, again she states this happens all the time.

Well, if this happens all the time there is a problem. I feel the consumer should be informed of the phone rates. Or a warning should be posted by the phone. If I was calling from my home phone to Vegas the charges would not have been more then $20.00. This is just plain extortion from consumers they probably will only see once. And the attitude of the hotel clerk led me to believe that they really don't care, the clerk states its out of their hands, that it is the phone company.

Well if the hotel really cared they wouldn't let the phone company take advantage of their customers.

it's perfectly legal. It's not just confined to the Riveria, it all over the U.S.

You subbmitted you report in July of 2001, yet you stated that you were there in October of 2001. Three months into the future of when you filed this report. Today is October 1st, 2001. I guess you still here on you five day stay. It's hard to believe a report when it's not accurate.

Maybe you should stop calling 900#'s and/or other entertainment
compainies. I've worked at 4 major hotels in las vegas, including The Riveria. I have never heard of anything like that. The Riv doesn't have it's own operators to place calls for you. All the PBX operator does is to connect to an "outside" operator. You are on you own from there. Why
do think there are all those 10-10-### commercials out there? They know that there are some long distance companies that prey on people just like you. Did you know that there is a long distance company with the following names: "I don't care", "I doesn't matter" and so on.

So when the 'outside' operator asks you what long distance company you would like to use, guess what the majority of the peoply say? You guessed it... This was all on dateline and it's perfectly legal. It's not just confined to the Riveria, it all over the U.S.

I visited the riv in august of 2001 for a pool tournament with tha APA league.

I also had a $200.00 plus phone bill for just a few calls to back home in PA.

couldn't have been 10 min per day maybe 5 days.
I threw a hissy fit when I saw the bill, but it fell on deaf ears.

I should have used my cell phone. It would have been much cheaper. Roaming in Vegas is less than $2.00 per min.

That would have been only $100.00
