When I signed up for Vonage phone service I spoke with one of their customer service reps over the phone who assured me that I would not be locked into a contract and that I could cancel my service anytime without penalties.
I made it clear that I did not want to be locked into any contract should I decide Vonage was not for me and wanted to opted out later. Again, she assured me there was no contract and that there would be no penalties to cancel.
So I signed up for $29.95 monthly package. I asked, and the Rep assured me that I would not be charged any additional fees for the use of their services.
For the first 3 months my bills were $29.95. After that they jumped to $34.43 without warning or reasoning. I emailed Vonage for an explanation and was told that I was paying for the leasing of their Vonage cable box and other maintenance fees on their end to upkeep my connection to their services. SOMETHING THEY STATE IN THEIR TV COMMERCIALS that they don't do! But again, Vonage lied! They are exactly like the phone companies!
I figured, I was already in this thing so I might as well ride it out and cancel once I move. Just before my apartment lease ended my Vonage EQUIPMENT STOPPED WORKING!!! And the tech over the phone could not get it working again. So at that time I opted to cancel my services with Vonage.
AND THATS WHEN THE GOOD, BAD AND UGLY of Vonage reared its decietful head! The guy I spoke with, Ryan told me I could cancel but that I would have to pay an early cancellation fee of $121 because I was under a 1 year contract for using their Vonage box. Keep in mind, the Vonage Box is BUSTED!!!
He suggested that I keep the busted Vonage box and pay them $121 cancellation fee which woudl covered the early cancellation fee and BUSTED Vonage BOX they were kindly allowing me to keep! Can you believe these IDIOTS!!! Ryan refused to let me talk to a Supervisor and kept telling me that neither him or his supervisor were capable of waving the cancellation fees!
He made no apologies for his company decieivng me into believing their was not initial contract. After nearly 45 minutes of getting no where with this Idiot, I told him to go ahead and let my contract run out...even though I couldn't use their services due to the busted Vonage Box. They had me by the balls and Ryan knew it and was somewhat laughing while on the phone with me over my displeasure of them screwing me.
The best advice I could give Ryan was to start looking for another job, because Vonage won't be in business for much longer if their foundation is built on decieving and cheating their customers. So whatever you do...Avoid Vonage....they are no better than the regular phone companies...in fact, they are the phone companies!!!! Be ware!!!
