Warning! warning! Ever make or receive a collect call from a pay phone? Well things have changed. Used a pay phone at a market to check with wife if we needed anything. No cell phone, no change on me, so I called collect from a pay phone a distance of about eight miles to my home. Used number advertised on pay phone for service. On phone for a couple of minutes, billed for three. The charge on my next telephone bill was TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS and 32 CENTS
Breakdown: Call $15.43, Feduniversal Svc Fund $1.69, USF Carrier Admin Fee $2.50, Regassesment fee $1.50, Lec Bill Fee $2.99.
When I called to question was told each pay phone has its own rates and should have checked with operator for the rate before making call. Asked if the person accepting the call has an opportunity to check the rate before saying yes or no to the call, got silence.
What a ripoff, luckily can request Verizon to stop charge against my account. What a trap for the unwary. Don't leave the house without your cell phone these days. Telephone sex services can't charge more. Well I did get screwed!! Class action anyone? Who Licenses these people?
