Zero Plus Dialing Been outragiously charged for long distance collect call from a local to local call 1-888-502-0734 ripoff Nationwide

I called at&t to inquire why there was an extra $50.58 on my bill and discovered there was an outrageous collect call charges. He said I should call ZPDI. I did and reached a very nasty woman who said that is standard charges. "For not having 50 cents for the payphone?". My daughter called from the mall which is just under 2 miles away. Very local call but charged for long distance

I expected a little bit of a charge but this is just outrageous.
These numbers are actually to Haslett From Okemos and the Mall is just up the road from me. Walking distance on good weather, but this company can charge extreme amount of charges without even notifying you that there is a astronomical charge. For some of us that is alot of money. How can they get away with this? I will make sure my daughter will carry 50 cents in case of emergencies for now on.

These companies have raised their prices to outrageous amounts to cover their losses. Pay phones are becoming a thing of the past, often very hard to find. It doesn't seem to matter what they charge, they are given free reign to do so.
Three options off the top of my head to avoid this happening again. 1. Purchase a calling card for your daughter to carry in her wallet. These are quite reasonable in cost, and would cover her in an emergency. 2. Alternative to this would be a 'disposable' cell phone (the type that you purchase minutes for). The price of these has come down in recent months because the cell phone companies have lowered their contract prices. or 3. A contract phone with one of the national carriers. You can get a monthly plan for as low as $20. per month, and some companies even offer 'pay as you go' programs similar to the 'disposable' ones mentioned above.
I understand that all of these have a cost attached, but not nearly the price you were charged for those 2 collect calls. Good Luck!
