Purchase a new bulb and put it in. They are probably right. And......replacement bulbs are NOT covered by any warranty, manufacturer's nor extended.

I have worked in the television repair business for 8 years now. My boss has been in business for over 20 years at this point. The person that filed this complaint needs to understand that there are certain problems that occur with certain sets. Now, in all fairness, she did not mention her model number. So, I cannot say in total assuredness that what I am going to say is 100% correct. Now, I can say that if you own a DLP television and it cuts off at times, has sound, no picture, won't come on and the red light is blinking....ususally the lamp light, clicks on and back off....These are all typical signs of a blown lamp. Now, back to the article that I am responding to....If I knew your model number I could tell you a lot more about your television. Shop NBC, Walmart, Sams, KMart and a few others DO NOT COVER LAMP REPLACEMENTS. However, Best Buy and Cowboy Maloneys cover a one time lamp replacement. The reason being is that on a DLP television, all of us know that the lamp is going to go out. I relate it to customers as like unto your kitchen light. You turn it on, you turn it off....eventually, it blows and you have to replace it. That is the case with any type of light bulb. Now, when the warranty company is paying the expense of the lamp, labor and mileage to your residence.....well, it can get spendy. Now, looking at it from a business prospective, if you sell an extended warranty for $300 knowing that on a dlp set the lamp is going to go out, you already know in advance that you are going to lose money. So, that is like someone insuring your home light bulbs for 5 years....Well, you and I both know that they will have to be replaced. Now, if anything else goes wrong with your set, it is covered. If lightning strikes your home and totally trashes your set, it is covered. All televisions come with a manufacturer warranty.....anything over say 32" usually has a one year parts and one year labor warranty. Now, there is NO mfg in the world that covers lightening damage. Therefore, the extended warranty will pick it up and take care of all expenses. The lamp assy is about the cheapest part of your television. It is a simple change, usually done in less than one minute. If you have any questions, please respond to this post. I can usually tell you what is wrong with your set just from the symptoms that you tell me. Be it the lamp, light engine, main board, y and z sustain boards, power board. There are certain problems associated with certain models.....There is no way of escaping this. To the one on the set that I am responding to, post your model number and I will tell you if what they said is true or not. I really feel that it is due to the fact that a doctor will tell you something from experiance and be correct. Same for television repair. Thanks and have a great night....Leo

Bulbs are not covered by the NEW plan. When you told the service rep what was wrong did you use the words "there was a loud pop and then the screen quit working"? We have to make judgement calls and when all things point to an uncovered failure then we have to consider it that. Had you replaced the bulb and still had issues we would gladly taken care of it for you.
