Terry (Lance) Eger redefines the words "Shyster" and Pathological Liar. He is both the landlord and tenant from hell. He lies his ass off to get what he wants from landlorders then he rips both the landlord and tenants he sublets to.
In late July 2009 I put up an ad on both saying that wanted shared accomodation in a Calgary neighbourhood with lake access. He replied saying that he had everything that I wanted in McKenzie Lake in the southeast part of the city.Everything seemed perfect. Right?
Wrong!! I became very suspicious of this guy very soon after I moved in because the landlord of 1052 McKenzie Dr kept coming by leaving eviction notices on the front door stating that he owed back rent of $3000-$4000. Terry dismissed him as being a lying old fool and not to pay attention to him. Around the second week of September, Terry told us that we had to move out of there in 3 days because he was tired of the landlord and we were not going to get lake access.
We then moved to 84 Midridge Gardens SE because it would supposedly give us lake access. About 3 days after moving in, the new landlord started leaving eviction notices on the front door. On the evening of Sept 15, the landlady came by and removed the deadbolt and Terry assaulted her and called the police. The police came by and arrested him for not the assault but for outstanding warrants.
It was at this time that I was really starting to doubt everything he told me over the past 6 weeks. I googled him and found an entry on Rip off Report about him conning prospective renters out off $200 deposits to hold a room that he had no intention of renting. I now began to become worried about who I was dealing with and called the lake associations of both communities to find contact info for both landlords.
I spoke to the McKenzie landlord and found out the Terry did not leave because he was fed of the landlord, it was due to a court ruling that he had to be out by Sept 6 or a Sherriff would remove him. This landlord said that Terry did not pay him for several months and that he was collecting rent from unauthorized subleters living at the premise. Terry was paying no rent and pocketing money.
The landlady at the Midridge house said that he wanted Terry out because she noticed that myself and another guy were living at the address without her consent and that Terry was not paying rent.Terry also said that a girl friend was moving in later in the year(a girl that no one around him had ever seen or heard of. She left many notices on the front door demanding that he vacate the premise. The last notice stated that he was taking him to court on Sept 29.
I attended court with the landlady and court agent just in case she needed a witness or a statement. Terry's lies reached a peak when he told the judge that he did not have to pay rent in the month of Sept. The landlady's council showed the judge that the first month's rent was due on Sept 15, as stated clearly in the lease agreement. He also denied the assualt which was witnessed by an individual working in the house that night, a written affadavit was given as evidence. The judge ruled that the lease agree was terminated on Sept 30 and that he had to be out by the 4th of October. I believe the judge was angered by his blatant attempt at deception.
In summary, I have known Terry (Lance) Eger for 2 months now and I can say that I have never met a more dishonest, deceiptful, and devious person. He blatantly takes advantage of the innocent and naive for his own personal gain. He knows the law around landlord and tenant disputes to foster his own greed and laziness. He is now prowling the internet looking for his next victim. Please do not let it be you.
