The people who run Waverly Hills are, in my opinion horrible human beings.

Waverly Hills Sanatorium is an old tuberculosis hospital that later turned into a mental institution and is now a popular tourist attraction. Rumored to be haunted, Waverly Hills has been named one of the scariest places on earth. It is incredibly difficult to book a spot on the tours.

My mother and I were signed up to go on one of the tour/investigations (half night for $50 per person). We were scheduled to go on April 3, 2009 but my grandmother (who was my mom's mom) died on April 2, 2009 (aka the day before we were supposed to go)!

When we called the owners and told them the situation, they wouldn't reschedule because, God forbid, they lost a little money. The woman explained that in order to reschedule our time, she would have to continue the tour with us absent - therefore losing the money for that night - and have us take up spaces on another night. Spaces are limited.

Now I am a reasonable person. I understand that Waverly Hills is a business and that businesses need to make money, but my mother lost her MOM. I lost the last grandparent I had. It seems to me that anyone with a soul could make an exception for us. These people are already booked for the rest of the year at least. They're raking in more than enough cash to feed their families. I don't see how they can refuse to make an exception for us.
(NOTE: we did offer to provide my grandmother's death certificate as proof).

We reported them to the Better? Business Bureau and the people there couldn't believe that Waverly had refused to reschedule us. Neither could we. My mom and I were really excited to go to (it was literally all my mom talked about for months, and she never gets to do anything like this). I honestly cannot tell you how much my mother wanted to go. I wish we could have gone but the people who own Waverly denied the BBB's request. Apparently, money trumps humanity.

Seriously, does this seem right to you?

Waverly Hills Sanatorium, did the right thing.

AUTHOR: Zimooya - Salem (U.S.A.)

First off I want to say sorry for your loss, but I don't agree with you filing a complaint with the BBB or even writing up an article here.

Me and my wife went on the Waverly Hills 8 hour tour in March and I can say I had the chance to speak with the owners, and they are very nice people, Charles was even nice enough to give us free merchandise from the gift shop.

When we booked our tour we asked all the questions I guess you should have, we asked what if something happens and we cannot not make the tour and we were told up front about the no-refunds and what not. Sorry your circumstance may have been for the worse, but if they make exceptions for one they would have to for all.

If you buy tickets to a sporting event or a music concert and couldn't go, should they give you a free ticket to another show? I think not...And the owners are not money hungry people they are turning around and putting money back into Waverly Hills to restore it.

So in there defense, I think they made the right choice.

Waverly is not right. they are wrong so are you to defend them

AUTHOR: Mark - Houston (U.S.A.)

In special circumstances such as this they should go ahead and do a one time courtesy rain check.

a death in the family would be one of those Special Circumstances.

also many states have laws about giving your money back if you pay for a service or goods which you do not receive.

so to defend the owners in this situation is wrong. so get your head outta yer arse
