Okay, before I continue I want everyone to know up front
that I am not an ITT Tech employee or student and I am not associated with the school at all. I am considering applying for a recruiter postion and was just checking out what folks had to say here. Some of the things
I see are disturbing. I have been a recruiter for a major corporation and for a “traditional university”. I do my research and wanted to see what people had
to say about ITT Tech before I committed. Because I haven’t worked there and
because I’m applying for a job there I am only going to address the posts I’ve
seen about the recruiters, and I’m going to do it from a general standpoint. I
just wanted to respond to some off the ludicrous statements I have seen
regarding the job of recruiters. First the statements, then the truth…
1. Recruiters are just salespeople – Uhhhhhh, duh! If you
didn’t know this then you are either extremely naïve or you are 12 years old.
As stated above, I recruited for a major corporation for several years and also
for a 4 year university. OF COURSE they are salespeople! When a recruiter for a major
university calls on a H.S. student to persuade them to attend XYZ University,
why do you think he/she does it? Because you are that one HS Senior in the
entire United States that is going to make or break their reputation? Will
getting you to attend their school suddenly catapulte them into a Top 5 ranking
nationwide? C’mon, get real! They are doing it because…
- They
want your money (yes, Universities are there to make money)
- You have a GPA and an SAT score that will
improve the schools overall rating, which means a higher profile and more
money from other perspective students, especially out of state students...ka ching!!
- The
higher rating will encourage alumni to contribute more money to keep up
the schools “high standards”.
When the head football coach at USC shows up to “recruit” a
star running back is he not a salesperson? Do you think he is going to travel
across country to talk to the kid and then say, “Well son, maybe Texas
would be a better choice for you.” Again, get real. He’s there to sell this kid
on going to his school, and if you think he’s telling the kid that he’ll have
to go to class everyday, maintain a C average, and probably not start for 2
years, then we need to talk about some ocean front property in New
Mexico that I have for sale.
2. ITT is just a diploma mill and is only concerned with
getting money out of you – Those that say this have never attended a major
university, if they’ve attended college at all. Let me tell you about a diploma
mill:
You sit in a class
with 200 other students texting your buddy about what you and your girlfriend
did last night while a professor lectures. Then after class you roll over to
the professors office and buy the notes from his lecture that you didn't pay attention to from him for $15.00.
Or you can go to his so-called website and get the useless outline that he
posted for the students who are too cheap to help him make his car payment. Now
comes test time. You sit in that same class with those same 200 students
cheating off your buddy next to you who is cheating off the guy next to him.
The professor isn’t even in the classroom because he doesn’t give a darn if you
pass or fail the test. He’s got a contract in his back pocket and as long a
small percentage of the class passes, he keeps his job. Let’s say you fail that
test and want to ask the prof for special help. Good luck, pal. Between banging
female students who want better grades and writing his thesis for his PhD he’s
got ZERO time for you. Now, as a worst case scenario you fail out of school.
How many university employees will be lined up at your door encouraging you to
return? Yea, you guessed it!
3. You’re better off at a Community College than ITT Tech –
I can’t fairly compare the two because I haven’t attended ITT Tech, but if you
think you are going to get a quality education at a Junior or Community
college, then again, either you’re very naïve or you are 12 years old. I went
to a JC my first two years before transferring. The running joke was that this
JC (like all of them) was just 13th grade. A way to still live at
home and freeload off your parents for a couple more years. I heard someone
here say that the ITT courses were on the High School level. Bro, the JC English 101
course I had to take my first semester could’ve been Aced by a Jr. High
student. The only reason I was the only person who got an A in that class was
because I was the only one paying attention to the prof. Everyone else was
sleeping, drawing, talking, etc. And did the teacher get mad? Nope, he just
kept droning on because he knew it didn’t matter how many of these kids passed.
He had a job and he was gonna get paid. The way I understand it the ITT
instructors are retained or not based on performance.
So maybe there are folks who think ITT tech is a rip off or
not a good school or whatever else. Well here’s a reading assignment for you. Do
a search on this site for a college, any college, and show me one that doesn’t
have comments about getting ripped off and/or it being too expensive with the exception of the Ivy league type schools. Oh, and
one more thing…I have been a recruiter in one form or another for almost 20
years, and I have NEVER told someone a lie. Them “buying” my product through
deception isn’t worth sacrificing my integrity.
Okay, flame on!
