Purchased Jayco 23B Jay Feather in spring (Mar. 2006), purchased extended warranty through dealer also. Stored same unit behind home for 3 winters. This year, March 2009 opened camper to prepare for 1st trip and found roof had severe leak. Called insurance company and dealer to make appointment to have them estimate damage and repair time. Insurance company will not cover damage, not direct impact or penetration of roof. Jayco said leak was on going due to lack of owner not performing semi-annual maintenance of
roof top a/c unit, by tightening the bolts after trips or use of a/c unit, also the limited warranty was up the previous year. They will on goodwill give us a new roof and ship it to dealer, the dealer repair/service dept. will give a goodwill lower cost of replacement, $3400.00. Wow thanks 3 year old trailer and roof leaked and its my fault and I pay for it.
My biggest complaint is that I was not told that roof units can leak to normal use and travel. It is in the owners manual so Everyone should make sure they are checking out their roof units. This should have been discussed when I purchased the unit and went over normal maintenance issues. However even the service department had never heard of such a thing. Every owner of campers that I know that have roof a/c units have never tightened theirs down. If that is the case why did mine leak? Jayco wants me to just accept that it was my fault and be happy that they are being a Goodwill neighbor!
Thank You Jayco for standing behind your Manufacturing process that only
may last 6 months before a Leaky roof destroys my investment. I'm a satisfied customer and will buy your product again. Also the extended warranty purchased for $1800.00 for 7 yrs. only covers equipment inside the camper, ie. refrig.,microwave, water tanks, pump, a/c unit refrigerant leak, toilet, valves. Nothing that covers manufacturers bad installation of seams or sealing of roof after limited 2 year warranty. Yeah I'm HAPPY and a Satisfied Jayco owner. Just a little miffed can't wait to sell and buy a cottage on a lake.

Maintenance

AUTHOR: Johnnie C - Goshen (U.S.A.)

I wanted to comment on this situation. I own an RV and I have sold them. First off, an RV is not an ivestment. An investment is something that gains value over a period of time. An RV loses value, it does not gain value. It is very difficult for a sales person to cover every detail that comes with owning an RV, after all it is a house on wheels. A good sales person will cover the major items and some of the smaller ones, but should refer you to read the ENTIRE owner's manual. Even if they don't, you should always read the owner's manual. I have a Jayco and have read the owner's manual from cover to cover. I have also read my cars owner's manual and most of the manuals for my home appliances. It's something you should do. Anyway, it clearly states in the Jayco owner's manual that you should visually inspect all the seals on your RV every 6 months and re-seal all seals every year. It's just like changing the oil in your car. It also says that tightening of A/C bolts is the owner's responsibility as bolts do loosen over time. It seems that you are blaming everyone else except yourself for your roof leak when the leak stemmed from not keeping your A/C bolts tight. Your warranty was also expired so why is it Jayco's responsibility? You purchased the RV knowing that it had a 2 year warranty and not a lifetime warranty. It seems that Jayco is offering some help because they feel bad for you and would like to offer you a helping had. That's rare these days. I think you should be questioning why your insurance company is not covering this. Why pay for insurance if they are not doing what you pay them for? What reason did they give you for not covering this?

JAYCO JAYFEATHER 19H ROOF LEAK

AUTHOR: Happy Camper - Plymouth (United States of America)

I also am a victim of Jayco.  Have a 2006 19H Jayfeather with the same exact problem with roof leaking around the A/C.  Jayco responded to me with the same information about not checking the bolts around the A/C on a regular basis.....must be a company standard response.  Jayco seems to not stand behind their products and care about customer satisfaction.   Did I mention that the customer service warranty claims department has been less than helpful and friendly??  Never heard of a 3-year old travel trailer having a roof leak.
