In May of 2002 after a really bad winter and a month after surgery I was contacted by a representative of Coral Beach Travel and Tours. I believe his name was "Isac" or something. I thought it odd he was calling me on my cell phone, but after 10 minutes of hearing him say the word FREE, I thought nothing of it. He started off by telling me the this trip included 6 day and 5 night getaway, and that I was selected out of a drawing to receive this trip at a highly discounted price. I explained to him that I didn't have any money.

My boyfriend had been layed of over the Winter and I myself had just had surgery so things were very tight. He offered me a special deal where I only had to pay $199.00 up front, and could put off paying the balance of $199.00 when I booked the trip. I thought "what a deal!" After giving him my credit card number I proceeded by calling up all my friends to find out who wanted to go because the trip was supposed to include 4 people at no additional charge. The trip was supposed to include 3 days and two nights at Ft. Lauderdale,a Discovery cruise to Grand Bahama Island, and 3 days and 2 nights in the Bahamas, the cruise back, and an additional night in Ft. Lauderdale on the way back.

A month later a friend of mine contacted me about the entire event and said that she too was offered the same great deal. Hmmmmmm...I started to get suspicious. That same month a different representative contacted me from Coral Beach Travel and Tours and told me that I had a remaining balance of $199 and that it had to be paid by the end of the month, or my trip would be cancelled and I'd loose my money. I told the representative, "Chris", that the other representative,"Isac" had made me a deal. He said that it was impossible, they didn't make deals like that. Not wanting to loose my money, I paid the additional $199, and waited for my package that "Chris" said I would be receiving.

Two months went by, no package and no word from Coral Beach Travel and Tours. I called them up and spoke with Isac again, making no mention of the "misunderstanding" about the original deal. He told me that he would send the package right out to me. When I received the package, it spoke all about the luxurious vacation that we supposedly were going to be going on, but also in fine print about a $319 charge at the time of the reservation for each couple. I called them about the issue. I told them that I never agreed to pay that kind of money and that I was told the vacation cost a total of $398 which I had already paid in two payments of $199. Also the vacation was suppossed to include 4 people.

My friend who I spoke of earlier, the one who received the same deal as me, went through with the whole thing. She paid the initial $398 up front. She was as suprised as I was to find out there was an additional $319 fee, but paid it anyways. After her and her husband got to Ft. Lauderdale, the 4 star hotel that they were promised was damp, dingy, crawling with roaches, dirty, and staffed with rude people. The cruise was nothing other than a ferry boat ride, and the second hotel was worse than the first. It was the worst vacation of their lives and she was glad we wern't a part of it. "Don't Go!" she tells me as she too fights for her money back. You also have to pay for hotel tax, port fees and other meal and cruise fees that aren't mentioned on the brocheure.

Anyone who reads this....STAY AWAY FROM CORAL BEACH TRAVEL AND TOURS.....THEY'RE NOTHING BUT A TIME SHARE SCAM COMPANY.....and as I continue the fight for my money back, I wish all of you who have been taken for a long and exhausting ride, the best of luck!

Coral Beach Travel & Tours, Inc. welcomes the opportunity to present our side of what appears to have been an unfortunate vacation for you. While we make every attempt to insure that everyone has a pleasant stay in Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, Daytona Beach or Freeport Grand Bahama Island, we realize that, unfortunately, there will be some disgruntled clients. It happens with cruises too. We send many clients on 3, 4 or 7 night cruise and while most people love the cruising aspect, there are always those who felt it was confining, not enough to do, the cabin was too small, etc. Again, not everyone is suited to every vacation.

What we believe occurred is as follows:

1. You purchased the vacation package from a company named Florida Suncoast Travel out of Tampa, Florida. While Coral Beach Travel & Tours, Inc. produces vacations and maintains vendor contracts, we did not sell vacations at that time. Rather we acted as a wholesale producer of vacations and various marketing companies sold them to the consumer. We always advise these companies on how a vacation should be sold, that is to advise clients of exclusions as well as inclusions. Regardless of that fact, all our literature explains in the Terms & Conditions what is included and what is up to the consumer to pay when they make their reservations, which is a departure fee of $158.00 per person on the Bahamas vacation. It also lists what the clients will need to pay while on vacation; i.e., beverages, hotel taxes, tips, in general items of a personal nature. To assist in any issues we provide the clients with a toll free number as well as a direct number where they may call our reservation/customer service agents with any issues or concerns. To reinforce that we do stand behind our product we have noted in bold letters at the end of the Terms and Conditions that clients have up to 30 days from the day they receive the package (not from the day they buy) to return it to us with a written request and we will issue a full refund. I addition, the Terms and Conditions specifically advise the client to follow the written Terms and Conditions, not what they perceive they were told. This is for their protection as well as ours. It keeps everybody on the same page.

2. Let us proceed to the hotels issue. In Orlando the most frequently used hotels are the Amerihost Resort in Kissimmee, the AmeriSuites and Inn at Summerbay. In Ft. Lauderdale the hotels are the Paradise Beach Resort (formerly Ramada Paradise Resort), Ocean Beach Resort, Ocean Manor, Ocean Pointe and on occasion we use the Sheraton Suites Cypress Creek. The Sheraton is the least used property as it is not located on the beach and we advertise beachfront hotels. In Freeport, Grand Bahama the property of choice is the Royal Oasis Golf Resort and Casino (formerly the Bahama Princess). This property recently (May 2002) completed a $42 million renovation and boasts 2 golf courses, a full service spa, an exercise facility, three pools, a children’s program, a casino and many more features and amenities which make it a four star resort. All of these vacation destinations can be viewed at our website www.coralbeachtravel.com or can be reviewed and discussed with any of our professional travel counselors Monday thru Friday at (954) 345-7504 or (800) 769-7220.

3. Finally we would like to proceed to the time-share issue. As many of you who travel extensively know, travel post 9/11 has changed drastically. For many years we had clients go directly to the hotel and proceed from there. Since the disaster of 9/11 we found that clients were increasingly anxious to travel and even then we experienced much more phone contact than ever before. We welcomed these calls as it provided us the opportunity to assist the clients as well as allowing us to participate in promoting travel to sunny Florida and the Bahamas. We feel that everyone should have the opportunity, at least once, to bask in the sunshine of the Florida coast and the warm, turquoise waters of the Bahamas. We have been promoting travel to Florida and the Bahamas since 1991 and are very proud of the “Sunshine State”. However, there was one problem – clients wanted someone that they could be in touch with in the event that there were any problems. How to provide extended hours of availability? Our hours of operation are Monday thru Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pm. The solution was to work with a Welcome Center. Welcome Centers all over Florida are known to be open 7 days a week, most until 11:00pm. In the event of a problem (and we all kept 9/11 at the forefront of our thoughts) there would be someone the clients could call for assistance. The Welcome Center was also able to provide the clients with customs declaration forms and immigration forms along with instructions on how to complete them. This reduced the now long wait in line at Discovery Cruises due to increased security procedures. Now, the Welcome Centers in Florida work with many different companies. Some of these companies are time-share oriented, others are not. When we chose to use a Welcome Center, the staff there was made aware that they could invite our clients to attend a vacation ownership presentation, but it was not mandatory and their vacation would in no way be affected whether they chose to attend a presentation or not. When looking at the pros and cons, the pros far outweighed the cons when it came to general customer satisfaction and assistance.

In general, we are very sorry that you did not enjoy your vacation and welcome a phone call from you to try to set things right

Jeez, Christopher, ISSUE THE DANG REFUND!!

AUTHOR: Anon - Miami (U.S.A.)

What a bunch of garbage!

It is very obvious that the customer is totally dissatisfied. Why don't you issue her a refund? Why tack on that entirely insincere "we welcome a phone call" crap at the end of your explanation? How many times does a customer have to call? GIVE HER A REFUND!! I don't believe she took the trip, her friend took a trip (paid for separately).

Also, the fact that you sub out your sales pitches to a paid telemarketer isn't an excuse. You are probably paying them based on how many suckers they can sign up, so it wouldn't be surprising if they left out a few details, now would it?

YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING!

AUTHOR: Carolyn - Leominster (U.S.A.)

Are you insaine! Christopher, all that letter was in response to my report was a pathetic attempt to build back the credibility of you company. I've called several times to try to resolve the issue with professionalism and class, however none of my requests have been given a second look. Here's the bottom line.....I'm through with this nonsense. I

f you had read my report correctly you would have noticed that I never went on the friggin trip....ever....and never will. My friend went on the trip and brought back pictures of the rooms and conditions.

I refused to give your company the extra $319.00 you were asking for. I want my money back. That's it! I'm not asking for anything extra. Your company has proven to be dishonest and unappealing.

Unless your company wants to revert to a long an exhausting battle in the court system, issue me a check for my money. End of story! Thank you ANON for you defense on my part in that last reply!

Carolyn

Very good experience with Coral Beach Travel!!!!

AUTHOR: Jeff - Edmonton (Canada)

I have used Coral Beach Travel and Tours for a vacation and found that my experience was what we expected and overall above average. While my wife and I were looking to go on a holiday I received a fax outlining one of there packages. The specific package was the Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Grand Bahama Cruise package. After talking to a rep on the phone with CBT, she did pressure me a bit to purchase although that is nothing new in any purchase you make, she was very helpful and provided me with all the information I requested, hence we purchased. We recieve our travel package in a couple of days via express courier and went through the information and everything that was advertised was included. We waited a couple of months and then sent our requested dates via mail and suprisingly enough I recieve a call from a CBT rep who was confirming the dates. She then said that our confirmation #'s and specific hotel information would be sent to us in the mail. When I receive the confirmation #'s I immediately confirmed our stay directly with the Hotels, cruise line and resorts and everything was booked. We then booked our airfare independently (which was the biggest hassle overall) and we were ready to embark.
We arrive at the specific hotels and when you go to get your hotel vouchers, the normal time-share pitch is presented but that is done everywhere we went and once you tell them that you are not interested they leave you alone.
While away we met several other people who had booked through CBT and they also had nothing negative to say.

In closing, I have heard lots of travel nightmares and have also experienced them. My only suggestion is before you book research the company and packages as there is lots of information available on every company, good or bad.

Overall our vacation was an 8 out of 10.
The services provided by CBT were a 10 out of 10.
