Recently, I used Priceline's name your own price function.  As you give your credit card up front - they claim they will match you to a hotel that meets your request.

When I arrived at the hotel that accepted my request I found out why they accepted...

1.  The advertised price was lower than my offer

2.  The star rating for the hotel was way below what I requested.

There were bugs in the room, no staff at the hotel to discuss complaints with and the hotel charged an additional $12 for a fee that was not discussed on Priceline!

I contacted Priceline customer service who said the hotel was unwilling to refund the extra charges so they would not give me the $12 back or the difference in price from the charge I submitted and what the hotel advertised for.

I was completely disgusted with their service and their resolution...or lack of I should say.

So - YES, I tried to resolve the issue through Priceline and they sent a form letter back... NICE!

AUTHOR: Jusin - Ogden (United States of America)

I just learned first hand about the priceline scam. The way it works is they have a  number of nice hotels in an area that are say 3 stars for example. Then they will have one hotel that should be a 1 or 2 star that is rated out of its class. So when you make a bid for a price they say great we've booked you a 3 star hotel for $50. But then you realize that it's a crappy 2 star that they have a different rating on than  EVERY OTHER TRAVEL SITE ON THE INTERNET and it's even cheaper list price than you just booked it for.

That is the priceline business model scam. Then they add fees and taxes. So when you compare the "price" you have paid it's less than the advertised price but considerably more than the net price you would have paid had you just booked it through the hotel directly.

What a scam. At least my lesson only cost me $60. Never, ever, again would I use priceline.
