My husband received his CDL license 3 months ago.  He had several offers from companies that wanted to hire him.  He chose to go with May because he thought that they had the most to offer.

Boy was that a mistake.  They have made his life miserable since joining with them as a company driver. They told him that 90% percent of his loads would be drop and hook. So not true. More like 10% drop and hook and 90% live load and unload.  You can not make any money this way. Also, they send him on runs that are less than a 100 miles for the entire day and only pay him for the miles(should be paid hourly).

Whenever there have been problems with the loads, May has placed the blame solely on the driver.  They even told another driver that my husband was late exchanging loads with him because he picked the load up late. Turns out the load was rejected by a senior driver and they asked my husband(who was the second driver) to pick it up. May lies to everyone.

They have tried to make him pickup loads that are overweight and complain when he tells them no.  His dispatch makes him sit for 2 or 3 days to punish him for arguing with them about the loads.

He was told that he would have a minmum of 2500 miles per week.  So far he has never reached that number and the most mileage he has received has been 1500 miles per week.

If my husband had it to do over again, he would never have chosen May.  They have no integrity and they lie to everyone.  May is a terrible company to drive for and if you are a new driver it is even worse.

May Trucking Co. Thumbs up

AUTHOR: Eugene - (United States of America)

I sorry to hear that you had issues with May Trucking. As for myself, I spent two plus years with them as a company driver and I have to say, If it were not for personal reasons, I would still be driving for them. They got me miles they said they would, they ran me where they said they would.

They never once tried to force me to run a load that I did not have the hours to make. They would give the load to another driver or set a new delivery date, or have me run it as far as I could make it then switch with another driver. They always got me home when I requested to be there. 90% of the time I was preplanned one or two days in advance. Never had an issue with break down. If work needed to be done, it was done as soon as I got to a yard, if the work could not wait that long they would get me to the nearest T.A. or freightliner shop. O.S.L.'s (driver managers) were always freindly, understanding and helpful. Bottom line was very simple, I did the job they hired me to do and in return they did everything they said they would do for me.

Just my thought.

I'm always leary of someone speaking positive about a bad trucking company. I also understand that they have to treat some people good or they would have nobody. But we all have to assume that this complaint can be backed up with log books, unless they are using eletronic logs, and pay checks stubbs or bank statements. So if it is a false complaint, the trucking company should have ample proof of this.

My Time with May Trucking Company

AUTHOR: Bob Bonillas - Dallas (United States of America)

I was with May Trucking 5 1/2 half years. I reached age 62 and retired because I was having a problem with my night vision otherwise I would still be working there.

I started in 2003 as a company driver but after talking to some of the Owner Operators there that owned their tractors outright and continued to haul for the company, I decided to lease purchase one for myself. After 18 months, I had the lease purchase completed and the title free and clear in my name.

I decided to sell my Century and move up to a newer tractor. One of the fleet owners bought my tractor before I had picked another.  May Trucking allowed me to drive a company tractor until I picked out a newer tractor. They put me into a late model Peterbilt 379 Extended Hood. A very nice tractor but I like the Freightliner Century for economy and manuverability. I drove the Peterbilt for 5 months until I found my Century. I completed the second lease purchase and had the title free and clear in my name. I notified the Owner Operator dept about my coming retirement and they found  a cash buyer for my Century. Then I retired.

I really liked having the support of the company behind me. It made being an Owner Operator more enjoyable. Being a successful trucker is not easy but  you can do it.

May Trucking Company Employee

AUTHOR: Arron - phoenix (United States of America)

To the above report. Sounds to me that you have had some issues and I'm sorry about that. Perhaps it was due to communication failer on yours or Mays end. I'm here as an employee stating that I have Been with May for almost 9 months as a company driver and my over all experience with May has been a good one. I have never had any of the problems you had with May Trucking Company. I read these Rip Off reports and I can only think, what are the people doing wrong. May is not perfect but what company is? As far as picking up a load weather it has been picked once or 20 times before, thats the job your husband signed up for. I have done the very same thing many times, and rescued loads from other drivers because they failed to manage their hours right. That is the job I signed up to do and I do it without crying. With that said, May has NEVER blamed me for a picked load being late due to someone elses mistakes, they just Rescheduled it. As far as miles, sure, I've had a few slow weeks here and there but for the most, if your a good driver( and its not hard for most) I have gotten 2500 plus miles a week. 90% drop and hook. Well I wish it was all that but hey, thats trucking, your going to have to bump some docks from time to time. In this line of work you got to take the bad with the good. Sure, May has some issues that I dont like but I notthink going to file a report and talk bad about them. I'm a good runner and I just do the job I signed up to do. To all the new people looking to get in this line of work, May Trucking Company is a good company. When you read reports like the one above ask yourself is it the company that's been around for 65 years trying to screw their employee or is it the employee doing something wrong on their end. Come and do your job without crying, being lazy, or feeling sorry for yourself and you will do just fine with May Trucking Company. If you do have a issue then talk to your DM and resolve it. May is good about those kind of things. e
