Lite on it Corporation Chinese garabage moves from food waste to defective electronics Fremont, California

Upon purchasing this liteonit stand alone DVD/VCR combo player in October of 2006, I immediately ran into functionality as well as service issues with this company. This company was staffed by nincompoops acting as customer service people. Not one understood enpugh English to be able to drive safely let alone be helpful to call in customers. Features that were expected to be functional (such as the recorded dvd being able to do a simple search by time after recording to a dvd blank) was not included. This was my one and only chance to return this crap pile within the 30 day no questions asked window and I flubbed it by keeping the machine. That was my second critical mistake. My first?  Buying this machine. As problems continued to pile up (too numerous to list in this short space), I worked my way through a very poor customer service department. My machine was returned yo the company for rectification 0f problems or for replacement at least three times. Instead of fixing the machine, they would just return someone else's return that had not been fixed. I suppose they though this was a joke. The last machine they sent was so bad, I just closed the box and sent it back to them with a note that this repaired item was worse than the one I had. In retrospect, I realized what they were doing was running the warranty out intentionally so as to get rid of me. It was then that I obtained the services of a lemon law attorney by the name of Krohn & Moss Ltd. They went at Lightonit for about three months then gave up. I have contacted the department of consumer affairs and although  they took a report (over two years ago), I have not heard from them since. I assume they just take reports to "look good" as they don't seem a useful organization.

I have very thick files on my dealings with this company and have basically had no recourse as to satisfaction in having a resolution in my favor. This is no longer about money; this is about the principal of the matter in that these chinese companies come here, dump crap on our shores and expect to get away with such business practices.
apparently it works for them as they rip a lot of consumers off in this manner.

Manufacturing of garbage for sale on these shores should not be permitted. Now the chinese want to import cars. Given their track record of trying to make "reliable" complicated items with moving parts and electricity at their core, I "shudder" at the thought of chinese cars on American roads after my experience with their liteonit's manner of making things with moving parts and electronics. Given the level of product that comes out of tiawan and china, it is apparent to me that any manufacturing effort on their part is best left and most effective in the area of simple items such as  making barbecue scrappers and plastic extruded storage boxes (as long as the materials used aren't toxic), and that is the extent of the talent they have exhibited to date.

I am extremely angry that a piece of garbage such as this liteonit combo dvd/vcr recorder that was purchased as a recreational item would give me such angst and that this player would pass customs (the every organization that is in place to protect us) and be allowed to sell here.
