I was really excited when I seen a 50" Panasonic LCD HDTV on sale for $1299 (down from $1699)! I went to Mannheim since it's closer to my house as far as delivery fees go. The Panasonic wasn't in stock there; however, I saw a great Sony LCD HDTV. I also looked in the ads for next week and saw a 52' Toshiba (that was full hd, unlike the Panasonic) was going to be on sale from $3299 to $2499. I was even more excited then ... until I took the recommendation of my friend to research the prices online. I did. A bigger 55" Toshiba of the same specifications in every other way was only $1999.99 on Bestbuy.com! The very same Panasonic I saw on sale today I could get online for about $1399.95 regular price. I realize shipping overseas for AAFES would add on extra costs but I think when it gets into the hundreds it's quite overblown and ridiculous! It seems to be ripping us off more than giving us the claimed average 20.4% savings. Even more so for the overseas families because we have limited choice on American goods (even with the internet). This whole price scheme is absolutely ridiculous ... where are the savings and support AAFES claims to be giving the military members and families?!

BTW, that Panasonic is only on sale for a week - it goes back to $1699 on Friday, June 26. It is really the Toshiba price difference (even justifying shipping costs for AAFES) that astounds & frustrates me. They claim you save $800 in the weekly sales ad for the TV ... and, yet, in the states you can get a bigger one for still $500 cheaper?!
