Suburban Propane Early Termination Fee, Fairview, North Carolina

I contacted Suburban propane about setting up an account.  I spoke to Annette who told me that I could get a deal that would include no installation fee, no tank rental for the first year and the price of the gas would be $1.99 per gallon for the first year.  Then sent me a contract that stated all of this and I sent it back.  The next week I called to check the status of my account and to setup a time for the tank to be delivered.  At that time I spoke to Vicky who told me that Now I am to be billed $150.00 for an installation fee because my credit wasn't good enough for them.  I have great credit so I was not happy about this new information.  I told her that I did not like the way they changed the terms of my account and she said that is how it is and I complained further until she said she could have a manager call me back later. 

In the interim, I contacted another company and set up an account with them.   Suburban called me back and said that they would now honor the first contract and not charge me the fee.   I told them I wasn't comfortable doing business with them and I had decided to make other arrangements.  They called me back a few minutes later and said they were going to charge me an early termination fee of $120.00 for cancelling my contract even thought they had not even installed the tank yet.  I do not feel that I cancelled my contract.  I feel that they cancelled it when they changed all the terms of my account.  They used a bait and switch scheme on me and I did not fall for it.  I assume that I will be receiving a bill from them for the $120.00, I will probably send them $5.00 a month for 2 years if they insist that I pay it.  I am still coming out ahead by going with the other company.
