On July 10th 2005 I took my disabled green wing macaw parrot to the House of birds for his routine beak and wing trim.When I asked where the regular vet was, Gloria Stenlund, who owns this business with her husband Dick told me she was the vet.Posted on the wall is a sign that says only the vet can do beak trims. While Dick held my parrot, Gloria proceeded to do the beak trim. It was taking a very long time and my parrot looked stressed so I told her he looked stressed and maybe she should stop. She then replied that he was not stressed and continued on.I thought, she's the vet and should know what she's doing.

By the time she was done my parrot was dead. Dick tried to shove him back in his cage as if nothing happened. He said my parrot died of a heart attack. They did not sympathize with me nor did either one of them say they were sorry it happened. I was in total shock and crying. I had this parrot since he was a day old and he was only 3. They act like nothing happened. I told them to hold on my parrot I'd be right back. I then went and got my b/f but by the time we got back half hour later they had already put my parrot in the trash can and piled trash on top of him and put my cage in their truck. I was mortified. I told them you killed my parrot then act like nothing happened. I later found out that this Gloria is not a vet.

My parrot was disabled and as such she should have been more careful and not impersonate a veternarian. I am still traumatized by this. I have since talked to other customers who no longer go to that store and that pet shop has been banned from all bird shows because of their unenthical practices in the past. They killed my parrot and I want them to pay.

If she represented herself as a veterinarian, you need to report her to your states board of veterinary practitioners. You should be able to find them under healthcare practioners. Representing herself as a veterinarian is illegal.

the name of the pet shop is house of birds, not house of parrots. Their address is:Location House of Birds, Inc. 3817 E. State Street. Rockford, IL 61108. 815-398-4008. This is their website. houseofbirdsinc.com.

they are really mean people and don't care about the welfare of birds. A customer told me that a cockatiel bit Dick on the finger and Dick flung the poor tiel against the wall. Do not take your parrots there. Do not become their next victim. Do not shop there.

It is best to never get to know this group of people. House of Birds in Rockford IL, or their owners are in bankruptcy, so I doubt they will be around much longer. If they had such a thriving business, their merchandise would be moving out of the store faster...but it's old. SAVE and go elsewhere. Their cages are filthy and they are slum breeders. AVOID House of Birds, East State St. in Rockford, IL....Mary, I am so sorry for your loss. I will never go back there, and it seems many people do not return, it is a pit.

I was refered to Dick and Gloria by a very well known exotic vet, one who I admire extremely. I have a few birds who need good homes, and I've been looking for about a year in a half and just cant find anyone who seems fit, so he recommended me to these people. I am so glad I decided to type their name into google, and I'm so very grateful that ripoffreport.com exists. I was almost in tears at the end of this original post because if someone had killed my best birdie friend for a buck, I'd do everything and anything in my power to seek justice. I'm so sorry for your loss, I'm sure it botheres you to this very day. Also, thank you, for sharing your story. I'm about to email this post to my vet to see what he thinks of the situation.

You need to file a claim in small claims court, file a police report with animal crualty and file reports with anyone else that you will feel can help. If it was me I would show up at that woman's shop and kick the sh*t out of her also. I hope you were able to give your baby a proper burial. I have 2 parrots so I am in complete sympathy with you!!!!

Wow OMG I knew deep down this would happen. I personally know this family and I do agree they are very mean and nasty people. Their children are even that way. I remember when they first opened that store they were so popular it wasn't funny but they just kept getting worse and worse.

I called up there one time and Dick answered the phone and he told me not to ever call his store again and I had no business calling his store I was like ummm excuse me sir I am a customer. I am so sorry Mary about what happened to your parrot it is very sad but I do agree you need to report them. Maybe they need to get the business shut down and maybe they need to spend some time in jail. They have gone one to long. Since the day they opened that store both of them have claimed to be a vet.

Please Mary for the sake of justice you need to press charges they need to know what it feels like to be lied to and decieved. It gets you no where. Again I am very sorry for everything you have gone through with these mean, unprofessional, nasty, fraudulent people. Please anyone who reads this or has had something simular happen to you stand together and press charges and bring these people down. The world will be a much better place without the Gloria and Dick Stenlunds trying to practice medicine. Thank you all for listening.

House of Birds Murdered my Quaker Parrot

On June 1, 2008, I took my beautiful little 6 year old Quaker Parrot named 30 Minutes to House of Birds for grooming.  While my little love was getting her beak trimmed, Dick (the owner) said she had a heart attack and was dead.  He just threw her on the counter, saying she's gone. 

Neither Dick nor Gloria has since that day called to see how we are doing.

I will never set foot in that store again and I urge anyone who loves their birds not to let Dick or Gloria touch the sweet little ones, or they will be a goner.

Dick and Gloria are bird murderers and I believe they should pay for all the little friends they have killed.
