I signed up for Netflix, the 2 week trial.

I did not like what the service offered so I canceled my membership within a day.

They had put a $15.32 charge on my card and have held it in pending.

Their response " It won't go all the way through and you will be refunded in 1 to 3 business days"

Well, guess what it is now 4 days and the charge is still on 'pre-authorisation"

Maybe they don't consider that as "going through" but it DOES affect my available balance in my bank.

Then it begs to question if it was a two week trial why did they put a hold on $15.32 in the first place and what right do they have to "hold" my money in the first place.

"Your credit card won't be charged"

Well, I beg to differ.

IF my money isn't refunded I will be talking to a lawyer and they will be up for a lot more than $15.32

It's not the money that bothers me you know, it's the principle.

These guys are crooks, stay away from them.

You're serious???

$15 and your complaining? Read their fine print. Netflix is NOT a scam, they are NOT crooks and if you have to worry about $15 charges without checks bouncing then you have bigger problems than their service!

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Credit vs. Debit

AUTHOR: Mykl - Boca Raton (United States of America)

I get that lots of folks like debit cards, but as one who has worked in the credit card industry and in fraud, I tell everyone that debit cards are for those who have no credit, bad credit or are unable to manage their finances.  If you are not one of these or can change and not be one of these, then use a credit card.  Charges on credit cards can be disputed, you can get a % back on purchases, frequent flyer miles, etc.  You also get buyer protection on gold+ cards and any wrong charges don't touch your bank account.  When if cashier wasn't paying attention and charged you $500 vs $50 dollars and you happen to have just $501 in your account.  What would it be worth to you to not have to stand in line to get it fixed, get the NSF charges removed, talk to those yo wrote checks to and get their NSF fees waived etc etc etc.  Ditch the debit card.  Get a credit card.  it helps build your credit which is like a number that tells companies have trustworthy you are.  you will see it pays off in ways you can't always foresee.  Smaller deposits for utilities, lower insurance rates, etc.

Netflix, as with most companies, wants to protect itself from faudsters.  Its the reason who prepay for gas and tuition.  The dvd they mail you is worth more than your whole month's subscription.
