An award nominated Australian web designer has had his portfolio website design (and content) stolen by a UK based design agency.

The Vuu Media website was recently nominated in the Australian Web Industry Awards 2009, and took out the finalist spot for the state of Victoria, Australia.

The original site: http://www.vuu.com.au/

The rip-off: http://fullfat.zserver.co.uk/

The link to the Fullfat rip-off version of the website was discovered after reviewing site traffic statistics.

Visiting the link was a disappointing shock, as it's not a case of borrowing design inspiration, this is a blatant raw file copy - with progressive changes being made as Fullfat repurpose the design as their own.

Resolution

AUTHOR: L91 - WINDSOR (Australia)

As at 10 DEC 2009 the problem has been resolved satisfactorily, and the copyright infringement rectified.

Communication has been received from Full Fat Studios that explains the situation - copy below. Their communication has been open and forthright, and it does seem like an unfortunate series of events triggered by a work experience trainee.

It has also been clarified that Zinc Digital had no knowledge at all of these events --- they just provided hosting space on their server, and are not to be held accountable in any way.

From the Creative Director at Full Fat Studios:

----- cut -----

We would firstly like to apologise for the breach of copyright to your

company website. We took on a trainee on work experience for a 2 week

period in which to gain knowledge of website design. We told them to get

inspiration from some a css gallery website and design and build a site.

We were totally unaware of them ripping off your website altogether and

have taken appropriate action against this person.

From their actions, this has in turn made us look bad due to the

publication on RipOff Report and this is something we are also fully

against in terms of breaching and duplicating websites. This has happened to us on one occasion and were very disappointed.

Please do not let this reflect in anyway upon the reputation of our business.
