I purchased an extended warranty on my garden tractor when i purchased it. I have used it one time and the problem was fixed. I have the same problem with it again and Lowes are giving me and servicecenter the run around. I purchased the warranty April 20,2006,it was 4 years extended protection plan, and they told me that it would be really 5 years counting the automatic 1st year manufacture warranty. I called Lowes to report the latest problem and i ask if i had 1 more year and they told me that the manufacture warranty ran concurrent with the first year of protection. The warranty was expiring on April19,2010 so ineeded to get it fixed. I took my tractor to a servic provder on April8,2010 and its still there as of today May18,2010. I have contacted Lowes and they were going to put a special team member on this as of last week. Today i called again and this person was going to put a escalating team member on it. I personally dont think they want to fix it !!!!

#4 Consumer Suggestion

You were bamboozled

AUTHOR: IntheKnow - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 09, 2010

Your Lowes extended warranty is intended to deceive.  Troy Built, Husqvarna, John Deere  and Craftsman (Sears) come with two year mfr warranties.  Cub Cadet comes with three. The ONLY thing your 4-yr plan gives you in years 1&2 is in-home (for riding mowers not walk-behind) pick-up (and redelivery).  Otherwise, there are ZERO extra repair benefits.  Belts, filters, engine underperformance due to oil level issues, brake pads, tires are not covered by the mfr or by the plan.

You paid for in-home pick-up and year 3 & 4 extended warranty.  Most of the bullet points in the part of the brochure that you read are farcical.   Home Depot's plans, no better coverage, clearly start after the mfr warranty - so as to not deceive at least.  You would have gotten year 5 coverage with Home Depot.

The best recourse is to complain of the deception to the regional office - the regional vice-president. The store will give you this info.  cc. the complaint to your state's attorney general.

I suspect you will get satisfaction thereafter.

I went a step further..

..and found a copy of the plan online...seems pretty clear it only covers up to 4 years, not 5. Perhaps they are investigating if you were mislead and want to make good, but it could be a corporate decision and it will take time. Or, they are stalling in hopes to get out of it, I have no way of knowing but this information should clear up the actual length of time the plan covers on a tractor.

Question..

I am not defending Lowes as I do not know how this plan works, nor do I know if the employee who sold you the tractor made a mistake or lied.

I can say I have dealt with companies that sell protection plans and they are typically called "protection or service plans" and not "extended warranties" for a reason.

They always run concurrent with the manufacturers warranty, and typically cover beyond or what would be the point? It does not seem the plan is a fake as you stated they did service it once under the plan.

The issue seems to be that it was implied at the time of sale that the plan begins after the manufacturers warranty expires, but it actually runs concurrent and may be expired. At least they are looking into it..maybe you will get a break. Perhaps you are correct when you state you don't think they want to fix it..but most likely they just don't want to fix it for free if it is no longer covered. Can't really blame them if that is the case.

Another LOWES RIP OFF PROTECTION PLAN

AUTHOR: jimmy - (United States of America)

I tried today to get in touch with the escalating dept but was unsucessful. I spoke with another service supervisor and he could not tell me anything about this problem. He said I would have to wait on the escalating dept to get back with me. He said he did not know when this would happen. I told him that it would probably be another 6 weeks.Do not ever buy a protection plan from LOWES, it is not real!!!
