Prime Therapeutics is pharmacy for Blue Cross Blue Shield in Florida.  Sent all information in to them to receive a better deal on medications for my husband, mother, and myself if we had them mail us generic medications.   We had to send them the original prescriptions.  Mailed in early May

I spoke with company on May 3rd, 16, 19, 23, 25, and finally on June 1st.  We never received the medications.  It took until June 1st to find out that they shipped it to an alternate address which they claimed they used even though it specifically said this is a summer address and our time there varies or is inconsistent.

I could not make the last person understand that it had a permanent address on the front of the form and a phone number.  If there was the slightest doubt they should have called.

I can't imagine that they would go through me calling on many occasions and not tell me that the product went to alternate address.  I was told I should not have written down the alternate address.  I can't understand their thinking on this. After three calls to regular customer service and two supervisors they now decide it is my fault?????????

Further I was told that I  would have to now pay and additional copay for the prescriptions all over again and that they would now be giving me the last 90 days of the full prescription and I would have to go back to the doctor to get another prescription.  Even though they were wrong.  Further I would also have to wait to get this all processed.

I was told to call my doctor and ask him to give me another prescription.  However, my doctor was on vacation.  Further if Prime already says I received the medication I would have to pay full price for something I did not get.

My husband, my mother and I all take high blood pressure medication that will run out before we get our medication.  I am out of my blood clot medication and have been and they continue to tell me that it is my fault because I wrote down the summer address on another page.  In the beginning I had called and asked about the alternate address and was told to fill it out but put no dates.  They would go by the permanent address.

I was also told that if the medication was not there that I would have to wait at least 15 days or wait till medication came back to Prime.  Then was told that that woman made a mistake.  All these calls and yet no one looked at where the medication was mailed.  I was asked every time for birth date full name and address.

These people are not  capable and rude on top of it.  I have yet to receive a call back from this person who would only give me here first name and initial of her last name.   I may be retired but I am not stupid.  Our health is  at the mercy of Prime Therapeutics and their obvious rip off tactics.

First of all- it was May/June which is the summer. It is impossible for a company that fills a high volume of prescriptions to call every patient. If you did not want your medications shipped to your alternate address it never should have been provided to the company. You should have been told where it was shipped to, and there is no excuse for not getting that information sooner, however, there could have been a delay in processing due to prior authorization needed, refill too soon, or another billing issue which delayed the delivery. Again you should have been given this information.

"Further I was told that I  would have to now pay and additional copay for the prescriptions all over again and that they

You should have had to pay an additional copay. It was shipped to an address that YOU gave them as a summer address, it was summer and it was shipped appropriately. They should not have to lose money just because you cannot or will not go to the other location to pick them up. Furthermore, if there are mail order issues, I am sure your physician would have called a new prescription into a local pharmacy for you to fill- if you plan has mandatory mail order- all it would have taken is a call to the pharmacy help desk to override it due to mail order issues.

Too often patients blame insurance companies, pharmacies etc. for issues with their medications. Each person needs to take responsibility for their own health. Yes, the customer service may not have been very good in this situation and mistakes were made on both sides but in the end its up to YOU the patient to take charge. I am a pharmacy technician with 13 years experience- I have worked both in retail and for pharmacy benefit managers. I currently work for an insurance company and refuse to use mail order services- but I pay full price for my medications every month. The only way to avoid these types of issues is to use a SMALL local pharmacy- walgreens and CVS are no better.
