I have been contacted several times by Giove Law Firm, but never by the same person. Most recently, I've told I must speak with Christy Futko. When I do call a particular extension I've been given, no one ever picks up...all I get is voicemail.
In a nutshell, they are claiming I owe $380 on an old Discover Card. This struck me as odd, because in my "completely irresponsible w/credit cards" years, Discover was the one card I made sure I kept up with. I paid them off in '96 from money I recieved in a car accident settlement. So I'm intrigued by their claim and I decide to call Discover myself. I've spoken with numerous employees at Discover who tell me in no way, shape or form do I owe them anything. They show the account paid off in '96 just like I remembered and that it has never been sold to a collections company or law firm. They've even checked and Giove is not a firm they've EVER worked with (neither is First American Investment, who they claim is now their client, the ones who Discover "sold" the file to).
A very kind emploee at Discover called Giove on a 3-way call for me to clear up this matter and Christy got VERY rude with us, tried to hang up on us, and refused to speak with Discover until I fax over a letter giving her permission to speak with the "third party." Hmm, she can't speak with the original debtor?!
Also, keep in mind that I am now married and my husband and I are on a Discover card together. Beth at Discover, informed me that there's no way they would've allowed me to be on my husband's card if I was not in good standing w/them or was in collections with them in any way. I told this to Giove Law Firm and they told me that Discover is lying to me with all this information, including the fact that I wouldn't be able to be on my husband's card!!
Ugh!!! This is not over yet. i'm still FIGHTING with them but with Discover's help, I'll be telling them to F**K themselves soon enough.

Wait until they are closed, like tonight.
While you are relaxing, watching TV or whatever, just keep redialing and hanging up the toll free# for them. You can run up a huge bill for them. It costs 5 to 15 cents every time you call and hang up. Stay on for at least 6 seconds.
Give it to your kids if you have some and let them just hit the redial and hang up all day long Sunday.
You can easily add a couple of hundred dollars tho their phone bill in one weekend, then when you are done here, I can show you a real nice trick for the fax machine.
After all, turnabout is fair play. I can out harass any debt collector! I win EVERY time!
