In September of 2013 I decided after the death of my mother the month before I would honor her last wish and become a truck driver in her memory, So I decided to see what was out there and found that mtc wasn't too far away from where I was living at the time, I contacted the school and got my carrier sponsor and started in october after three weeks of jumping through hoops, at first I was optimistic but started figuring out that the school was shady I had secured my permit and had to wait an extra day for my DOT medical card to arrive so I could get my hard copy so I could participate on the yard and road so after the initial mess was cleared up I thought my troubles were solved. I was wrong my yard time was full of pre trips instead of maneuvering and yet I had one of the highest pre trip scores, so needless to say I failed my first cdl based on the fact that a driver informed me wrongly about the combo I was using and I pointed out on my third maneuver but that's my fault for trusting that particular driver, my second go on the other hand was a mechanical failure that was not only brought up to the school and to the DOT tester who in my opinion was in a failing mood regardless of what you said, the truck was leaking fluids, clutch was spongy, the gears were like trying to fit a round peg in a square hole and best of all the mirrors shook like you were trapped in an earthquake, anybody who drives a rig will tell you when you're operating a 30 ton rig and trailer in a twelve foot wide box it becomes extremely difficult when your mirrors shake so violently that the line and cones are blurring especially when your catching points on a straight line back or splitting your gear for a driver side offset. now I brought this to the attention of everybody in the school and yet the school and the state tester still allowed the truck to test resulting in a 75 percent fail rate for the students including myself, the school put me on a leave of absence and requires me to post a $150 retest fee..buyer beware.
