2 years ago   I visited Aspen Dental for the first time for routine dental cleaning. This regular hygienic procedure is safe and beneficial for any patient. But Carolina Rodrigues Colon, DDS refuses to do it. She insisted on performing a much more expensive deep cleaning/root scaling procedure. The procedure is unnecessary. This procedure can cause nerve damage, The procedure has side effects. And deep cleaning is often abused by dishonest dentists to increase their profit. I asked Dr. Rodriguez to proceed with a regular dental cleaning. But she insisted on having unnecessary, risky, and expensive deep cleaning. She said that I must follow her advice, or she would refuse any service to me. I tried to mitigate the disagreement with Office Manager Brian Thompson. Doctor’s decision may not have any reason, may not be aligned with common sense, or may be just ridiculous. But patients have to show respect toward the DDS title and obey. For example, my insurance received a $77 charge for (D9971) odontoplasty-per tooth. I was not informed about this service, I did not give my consent, and I see it as useless. My insurance fully pays for cleaning and exams. But Aspen Dental denied me this basic service. Instead they sent me a bogus bill. This is the robbery. I was surprised to find dental predators in this reputable company. It was my mistake to visit Aspen Dental. And finally, I am OK now. I visited another dental office. My dentist performed the cleaning and examination. He also provided several treatment options for my discretion. I am grateful to him for his simple honesty and integrity.
