I began my employment with Newman Windows late September of 2020, at which time my immediate supervisor was the “Plant Manager”. I was hired to assist with the newly implemented “Wholesale Division” as the business had previously only sold material with installation to homeowners for the most part.

I reported directly to her and had very little interaction with the owner, Tad Newman. In April of 2020, the plant manager resigned from her position. The Wholesale Division had just moved into its new office area at the south end of the facility. The plan was to sell materials only to customers, focusing mainly on building contractors.

Subsequent to the plant manager’s resignation, I then reported to the owner, Tad Newman. We discussed how we would get the newly implemented wholesale division off the ground. I knew that the plant manager and Mr. Newman had some conflicts over planning, procedures, as well as a personality conflict. I thought that perhaps the plant manager was over reacting with what she shared with me, but it didn’t take long to witness myself what I thought (and still think) to be odd behavior by Mr. Newman, to say the least.

In having conversations with Mr. Newman, I found what I can best describe as Dug the talking dog’s “squirrel” distraction. References of this conclusion would have Mr. Newman and I discussing an issue, policy, procedures and the like only to Mr. Newman, in the middle of said discussion, go completely off topic and into something completely unrelated.

I would have to back my brain up and attempt to get the conversation back on track. In the beginning this was confusing, then frustrating, and ultimately sometimes bordering maddening. He often recalls things that have never taken place, resulting in my feeling that his thinking skills show signs of difficulty recognizing, interpreting, analyzing and coming to conclusions about information.

There have been many instances where Mr. Newman would implement a procedure in the wholesale division, only to have another employee in another division question the procedure, subsequently causing Mr. Newman to flip flop back and forth, having me do tasks and assignments over and over to conform with how he was influenced at any particular moment. With that, I find him to lack leadership qualities and possess insecurities in his day to day decision making. When I questioned this flip-flopping, he got defensive and insulting towards me.

He made mention of my being overweight in front of a co-worker and told me that I should consider changing my lifestyle to lose 30 pounds. In front of that same female co-worker, because I said that she looked tired one day he stated: “It doesn’t look like David’s trying to get in your pants”. Ironically, since Mr. Newman hired this female, he comes into our office and sweetly says things like: “Where’s my smile this morning”? I find this unprofessional and that it creates an uncomfortable atmosphere in the room.

I find Mr. Newman to be the enabler of office conflict as he flip-flops his policies depending on which department he happens to be standing in. This creates an extremely contemptuous environment. An environment that I feel compelled to share with anyone considering employment at Newman Windows.
